Jacksonville was (is) for sure a southern city. High schools were named after
confederate generals. Yankee Smith was a driver of some note in the Jax area.
Stopped driving around 1960 at a young age, and passed on recently.
In land mass, Jacksonville is the biggest city in the country.
Typical Jacksonville Speedway modified. Small block Chevy but wasn't uncommon
to see Fords, Chrysler, Cadillac and Buick power...

Great work as always hawk22. I like the car and the basic white and black paint and lettering. Nothing fancy, just a good ol hard charging race car. RIP Yankee Smith. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau

Yes nothing fancy !! Got this model off EBAY and it was painted black. Converted back to white. But not a bad deal for $5.00…
Before this car was numbered 25, it was numbered 8ball. Working on that version of this car. Another EBAY buy but unpainted. $4.99 plus shipping. |

I like the car too. Nice wheels and tires and the little things add to it like the welded doors. |

These bodies were usually found in the south forty corn field. Sometimes in
Pieces that had to be welded back together. I can remember my neighbor doing just that. Could generally be had for nothing or $20/$30 at the most. Try not to make them too perfect, because they were not !!
Another neighbor bought a complete 1930 Ford coupe for $35. Restored back to original (more or less) and drove it around some. Then traded it for a
Banjo which he wanted to learn how to play (and did).
I did help him drag that one out of the field. Amazing that little four cylinder would still run !!! This was 1968 era before I moved to Virginia… |

Great work, as usual. You do a fine job of bringing the old mods back to life. Thanks for Posting, and interesting side notes. |
