|
|
I was reading a discussion about the best particular metallic color for a build and one of the posters said " I tried that and it was way too bass boat".
He didn't elaborate and I'm assuming that he possibly meant that the flake was too large and out of scale? Or is there another explanation for "bass boat" as it relates to paint?
Thanks,
John |

Bass boats for the most part are overly sparkly, they are heavily saturated with metallic flake compared to paint. On most paint jobs you would see paint with a little flake to add some flare or compliment the paint color. _________________ Would love to have time to finish but I have kids:

Thanks Dave, that's pretty much what I thought. The dilemma that I was in was that I wanted to paint a street car build gray or silver metallic but the couple of paints I tried either had too big metal-flake or was too small (or not enough) and looked like chrome or aluminum paint when sprayed.
One thing I found that looks like it might work is the Testors One Coat lacquer "Diamond Dust". The metallic "scale" of it looks just about right on the spoon test.
Thanks,

I have used the Testors diamond dust many times. A word to the wise if you are new to it, spray 10-12 inches from your model and quick fluent swipes(spray before model on through past the model), it will collect flake quickly and become a "bass boat". I recommend spraying on calm days and a couple of quick coats. I usually spray a coat, let it sit in the sun for about an hour then repeat as necessary to obtain your desired sparkle. _________________ Would love to have time to finish but I have kids:

Thanks for the heads up. I saw a couple of pictures of it sprayed too close (and possibly with a bad nozzle ) and it looked like flocking!

You're welcome guys, if someone can learn from my mistake then it's all worth it. I just wished I had heard of the purple h back in the day before I had to sand it all off . It is really good stuff and it's easy to control how much metallic you want to put on. _________________ Would love to have time to finish but I have kids:
