...off the internet (this one ebay), sight unseen, and when you get it and take a dig into the contents... think... what did I do, what am I in for ?

got this kit, kinda knew when I ordered it what I would be in for, kinda...

such history behind the real car. Lauda's first championship, the one that earned the #1 to be worn the entire next year... which was coincidentally tragic, documented in the EXCELLENT movie Rush. Which if you have never seen, and you like racing, you have to see.

I had to order some tire supplement sheets, one from Japan that has 1/12 decals for the actual tires, and one from Belgium that has the Goodyear livery. the best thing about this kit is that it's the old 1975 kit, and it has a horribly yellowed decal sheet, that if I were a betting man, would bet that they would shatter in the water - there is an updated Cartograf printed sheet that Tamiya had made, that is included. just no Goodyear logos of any sort, hence the mildly expensive overseas purchases of said decals.

anyway, here is just the box art... because that was intimidating enough for me. not gonna skip working on this one, gonna be started after the Menards Fusions are done. just gonna take a long time, I think.

sorry Dave, the Jack cars are gonna have to wait...

That is probably the 3rd or 4th Tamiya 1/12 kit I built as a teenager. Goes together pretty easily. I would recommend Indycals decals ( http://www.indycals.net/decals/f1/75ferrari312t.html ) for your build, a little pricey but worth every penny! I think you'll enjoy the build and you're right, it's a car with some very solid history.

Tamiya’s 1/12 kits are incredible to work on! They built up wonderfully and looks awesome, but they will test your patience with some of the fiddily bits! I’ve built probably 10 of them over the years and would love to crack open another one. Maybe a summer project...

Have fun and enjoy the Ferrari!

Ship that b to my house, I've built a couple of Indy cars in my day, they're a blast to build, and I can wait on the Jack cars. I have about 5 on the bar to get to get finished, that, and the honeydo list she's nagging me about Laughing

I have several F1 kits in the bullpen. I bought them with grandiose plans and then reality set in that they were going to take some real effort to get them done and looking right. I am going to have to go through the collection and start prioritizing the builds and get these in the loop.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Rush was a superb movie.

Where to get a case for such a big car? Found one (and only one) on ebay, you had to glue the glass together yourself. No interest in that.

A bit pricey but doesn’t look like there is really another choice... thanks for the heads up.

I love those Tamiya 1/12th scale kits, they are awesome. Some of the later kits really are a challenge. I have all of the 1/12th scale kits, and had to have all the photo etching, seat belts, and turned/cast aluminum parts to go with them. It's an addiction, of a good kind.

Tamiya makes vases for their 1/12 scale kits, but they are pricey, too.

If you're interested in the basic photo etch, seat belt material, and maybe even some new decals for this kit, contact Tamiya customer service in North America. The fellow I talked with was very helpful in obtaining these items for some older kits I'd acquired that didn't have those items in them, like the most current kits they offer that do have them. Relatively inexpensive as well, and add some nice basic detail without going overboard.
