Any picture that you wish to use as your avatar must be resized to a maximum of 225 pixels wide, any wider than that and it messes up the board formatting and tends to throw the posts and text further to the right and off your screen. Those using lower resolutions on their computers (ex: 800x600) will then have to scroll over to read the posts. This can be pretty annoying.

You will then need to find an online host that allows "Hot linking" where you can store the picture and where the board can access it. (It will not work from your computers C: drive, the picture must be hosted online)

Most of our members have free hosting accounts from Fotki, Imgur, or any number of other photo hosting services. I'm sure someone will chime in to this post with the best ones to use. refer to the photo hosts directions about how to upload your photo's to their server.

Note: If you use Imgur for your avatar you will need to remove the https:// part from the URL or it won't show up.

A lot of Internet Service Providers (ISP's) also set aside a little bit of space (Usually 5 to 10 megs) for their subscribers to host a small personal webpage. Inquire with your provider to see if they offer this with your account.

Once you have your avatar online you will need to click on your "Profile" link right underneath the Randy's forum banner on the main board page. Scroll down on your profile page to the "Link to off-site Avatar" there you will enter the full URL to your online avatar and then click submit. Your avatar will now appear next to your name.
