it happens, some people are in that have to have it mode. It just takes 2 bidders. _________________ On the Bench:

That was the classic bidding war between two men with NO WIFES!!!
"Look at what I paid $500+ bucks for!!" Her response "I hope you can sleep in it!!"
I have a feeling this car will be announced soon "to be made" by action/lionel. However it won't be available till winter 2012 if not 2013 with the sluggyness of production. _________________ "oh we play both kinds of music...country & western."

Hey Griff,
The way you make your cars, you should get $1000 easily!
If I told my wife I spent $570 for a diecast car, I think it's safe too say I would be sleeping in the shed or at my parents house. Women, they just don't understand. |

| Guess the party is over on this one, the last diecast didn't even sell for half of this one, $245. Mostly just two bidders, take one out and there is no one else to bid against. |

| Who knows if someone is not 'ghost' bidding? Not saying there is anything funny biz here, but it does happen and is illegal. That kind of money for a diecast is rather crazy, imo. But there are wealthy people out there that don't care what they spend. |

Thanks. I don't think it's shill bidding. Besides what you gonna do if you jack it up & win. By then the "loser" will be glad they didn't spend that much after the high wears off. SOmetimes 2-3 guys go nuts
& I think it becomes a test of manhood on how much they spend.
I was gonna do that car #51, but I'm sure it's not gonna get that kind of bread. I've done a few "1st timers" and did very well, but who knows what people will bid. I've had one go for $5.41 -so I've been all over the spectrum. I havn't topped $500 on one car yet-even $200 is rare at times. I had a $10 one 2-3 weeks ago. Even with that price, I made money. I got the car for $1 a couple of years ago & forgot about it till I found it in my pile. So I got lucky even with that beating. THe $5.41 car I had ALOT more invested. What ever they bring-they bring. Everyweeks a new adventure. I'm starting a James Hylton car today. I havn't done him in over a year. _________________ "oh we play both kinds of music...country & western."

I've sold my share too over the years and it's a hit or miss for the most part.
I remember a few years ago someone sold an '86 or '87 Wrangler custom for over $500 and I said that night to my wife that making those Wranglers/Earnhardt cars from the Eighties could make a little extra side cash. Well once the Dale movie came out with all those remakes, it just killed that deal. Ya never know! |

That Kurt car seems to be pretty up there right now. I am watching two auctions, 1 for a custom 1/64th scale car that is up to 20+ and one for 1/64th decals that are up to 25+. People must really want it. _________________ 2013 Races-22 1637 miles

they will pay, supply and demand. Deep pockets for some. Its there choice when bidding.
I have had that before. I had another duplicate car and the next bidder was willing to buy at his max bid also.
They have to know people to get a car at a lower price. When I get someone that wants something special, I tend to tell them I will be putting it up in a few weeks on ebay, and then he will have a chance to bid on it. _________________ On the Bench:

If that is the way you do business that is fine. I believe if you build these cars and sell them, then you build for people who order them. A lot of people are trying to stay off of ebay because of being ripped off. I was a victim of a rip off on ebay and crazy amounts like this will bring out more con men because of the economy

I stay away from orders, it is hard to set a price that is fair. You have diecast and shipping costs, decals, paint, etc. would you value your time at 20 to 40 per car?
I actually only do the NASCAR thing in between the local latemodel cars. The last cars I have sold, have been works in process for over a year ( dodge Daytonas).
I did have a promoter out of Chicago who had diecast re-worked (converted 1952 Chevy to a 1954 Plymouth) for a museum display, sent the car to me to make decals, apply them, clear coat and re-assemble the car. I told him maybe 40 to 50, and he sent me $250.
There are some good ones on ebay, and a lot of average sellers. Feedback is the king, if you do not get good ratings and feedback, no one will buy from you. _________________ On the Bench:

Yep, mine too. Only way I'd get into a bidding war like that was if I'd just won the MegaMillions 500M jackpot! _________________ Major John Reisman: Which one of you guys wants to be a general?

I still wouldn't do it then. I'm sure you could find someone here to make you one for much less. _________________ ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!

If someone here won the $500 mil and wanted me to build him a car, I would charge him $10,000 for it.
In relative terms that would be like $100 or so??
I think if I won that kind of money I would ditch this hobby and build the 1:1 cars for a living instead. |

Hi everyone,
Saw the link for the Kurt Busch car and it reminded me of a few ebay auctions saw a Bobby Allison #12 Coca Cola Dodge sell for $500.00,
and once saw a Dave Marcis Pontiac 2+2 sell for $1,200... yes that is
twelve hundred dollars.
I sell periodically but focus on the older style cars,
Darksider diecast mostly.
Have sold a #88 Digard car to Bill Gardner thru his business partner who had a name listed as Jeff Gordon... a company called the Gordon Co. no he did not drive race cars for a living...!
Sold four Bobby Allison Mustang's to the relatives of Melvin Joseph.
Have received an e-mail to make the Al Keller #4 Jaguar for the grandson
of the driver.
Sold four Joe Weatherly cars to the promoter of Va. Motor Speedway,
he and Joe were part of the original Fairgrounds Speedway owner family.
Had one of Joe Weatherly's and Bobby Isaac's relatives write me about making one of their cars.
recently the cars I have been making have been champion cars from the 50's to the 60's.
None of my cars have been sold for more than $200.00.
P.S. The Nascar Hall of fame has three of my cars, that and Va. Motor Speedway were the only ones to pay the most.
Keep up the great builds!! Diecast or Plastic!

Very Impressive resume !!!!
I'm with you, none of my cars went for big bucks, not that they were any better or worse than the rest, but it just depends on who's bidding and when. A little luck doesn't hurt either.
I had a guy wish I had autographed one of my cars I sold. I thought that was quite a compliment. :) |
