I am going to build a race car I have wanted to do since the early 70's. Right now I am in the research and discovery stage and need some help. The car will be the #9 '69 Pontiac Grand Prix that Roy Tyner drove in 69-70. I have some pics of it from 1969.....I have seen pics of the actual car restored and connected with the present owner of it. My incentive is that I was the gas man on this car for some races in 1969 and I carried engine parts from Pontiac Motor Div to Roy on a couple of occasions. I won't be able to exactly duplicate the engine since it was the rare RA V tunnel port variety. I do want to try to duplicate the interior, chassis and body as best I can though. I have seen threads about using various kit chassis under some of the Darkside vintage builds. This car was a stock 4-link, 2 shock, coil spring rear susp. Front susp was UCA, LCA, coils and double shocks. The car had stock floorpan and stock instrument panel modified for the racing gauges. I don't want to get tooooo carried away, but this will be the most detailed and accurate build I have ever done. I will need some help from you guys!
SO..... I have an old MPC 1969 Grand Prix kit to start with. What are your suggestions for a chassis to put under it? I am also debating the best way to represent the interior....build up from the chassis or try and modify the kits stock interior tub? I have seen reference to the Polar Lights chassis, but I can't seem to find that brand NASCAR kit and I have never seen one of those chassis built up.....would it be appropriate?
The biggest challenge quite honestly will be trying to find somebody to make me a set of number and sponsor decals!! (I do have good pics showing what I will need.) If anybody on this forum would be willing to attempt it I would appreciate you contacting me.
Thanks for reading and all input is appreciated.

There aren’t any ideal chassis for this build. I would probably go with the AMT ’70 Monte Carlo for the chassis and floorpan but the front crossmember and side rails are much heavier on the GP than on the Monte Carlo and the GP has a 2” longer wheelbase so the chassis will need to be stretched. The cage from an ‘80s Monogram NASCAR kit will be a good starting point.

I have most of the artwork for those decals but no way to print the gold foil at this time.
