Calling this one done. Need to touch up the grille a bit and the next one I will sand the molded in tire lettering off ,
the tire decals were a late addition:

Great job on the rocket, Gary. That's what they kind of look like to me - rockets with wheels. The guys who drove these things had some serious stones. No real protection to speak of. Appears that you stood a pretty god chance of losing your head in a wreck - literally.
Very well done. _________________ I couldn't fix your brakes so I installed a louder horn. |

nice job , terry .
joe weatherly called these cars "cucumbers on hay raker wheels"
as to the drivers surviving - they often did not . but just as often [ maybe more ] the cars survived to be raced another day . many of the cars back then had a fatality in their history - and sometimes more than one . the cars were built so strong that the driver absorbed most of the blow in a crash . today the cars are junk - throwaways - after a crash , but the driver almost always survives - with minor injuries .
those old guys were tough as nails !

Very nice model.
I have one of those kits to be build but I didn't decide which livery I will do.
Thanks for sharing your model. _________________ Classic Plastic Model Club, Lowell, M.A. |

That one is widely available, it was issued last year .
Most kits of old Indy cars are resin, white metal, or a combination of those.
I keep hoping Round 2 will re-pop Parnelli's Watson. _________________ http://public.fotki.com/Gary66/

Nice job, Gary! Indycals has some decals for that kit, if you want to do an authentic version. It's an old kit but an easy and fun one to build. An interior upgrade kit is also available in resin, cockpit sides, better dash and seat.

Bill, believe it or not, inside the headrest fairing on top of the tail was a "rollbar"! I guess you were supposed to duck!
