| I got to watch Butch race at Hickory and Harris Speedways when I was growing up. I agree that he was one of the best. |

I was there at DeSoto the night he crashed. We were working with Daniel Keene, who Butch was racing for the lead. Darrell Brown (I think) ended up winning., _________________ Jimmy McKinley

Wasn't that an "extended" length race/ Green white, checkers thing?
Thinking the talk was that something broke on his car, that may not have
happened if the race ended at the normal length.
Either way, it was a bad deal. _________________ Jim |

Either way, it was a bad deal. | I don't really remember the g/w/c. I do remember that All-Pro had a "last five consecutive laps under green" thing, but I don't recall if it happened at this race or not; I was 15 years old in 1985...
The left trailing arm broke on the car, and it snapped around going into turn three. The car hit the wall just past the pit entrance/exit driver's side first, and Butch's helmet actually hit the concrete, through the window net.
There's somewhat of a video of it on YouTube, I think, from ESPN's "Speedweek" show. _________________ Jimmy McKinley

| He raced at Huntsville Speedway (Alabama) 6 times I think. I think he won 5 of them. He was the epitome of a short track racer. He was cut from the same cloth as Bobby Allison in my opinion. He lived to race, and when he showed up, everybody else knew they were in for a fight. Not a redneck brawl, but a fight on the track. He was a racers' racer. |

he was smooth smart and a great person at and away from the track
i seen a lot of southen driver come to northen new england and race and from the cheers from fans you think butch was from the north east he was well liked and respected
i am happy my friend cho lee sent mike a copy of ever butch lindley
talk about on track fights.. butch had a car in primer for the oxford 250
coming out of turn 4 would lift the back candian driver Biederman car
from his win in 1976 till his last 250 he was the best driver ever seen in that race.. now that race avg 75+ cars
add in winning what some say the toughest short track race in the thunder roads milkbowl race where you raced three 50 lap races where the winner starts last after the first and 2nd race |

Sorry for responding so late on this thread, however, I remember seeing Butch race the orange #16 LMS and the #26 Cup Car a few times. The year Bobby Allison was racing the tuflon Pontiac #28 he had to rent the #26 from Butch because Bobby totaled the #28 during practice.
I believe that Butch was hurt in a car that was owned by Neil Bonnett and yes the race was extended and Neil never quite got over Butch being injured in his car. I also remember that when Butch was released from the Original hospital to be sent to one close to his home a Doctor who raced in Baby Grand racing had his private airplane sent to pick Lindley up and had it fitted for being able to carry somebody in a coma. That Doctor (I forget his name) was later killed in a Baby Grand wreck. _________________ Lil Joe, the original #8, National Motorcycle, Modified and two times Grand National Champion |
