Hey all.

After my successful slabside, I wanted to see what else I could potentially ruin. Ho!

So this Lumina and my razorsawing part way through it's body, so I can pull outwards a lower section.

And on the drive side, though higher up this time. Am sawing where the body begins to curve in.

And a second time lower down. Both sides.

The sills now measure inside at 69mm. Though it's original size I misplaced, but I guess I've increased the width by 6mm.

Here is the filler ready for block sanding.

My reason for all this is that I have seen how these round bodies were almost flat in their final year without being slabsided.

So, wet sanding finished and a quick fault finder prime coat.

Quick work with CA and talc.

And below, it's curve.

And interesting to compare with an MC slabside. The shadows are practically the same.

Nice work! What year are you aiming for? Looks like your rear bumper is worked in perfectly smooth too.

To be a 94 and definitely using Powerslide. So an Earnhardt or Waltrip.

And the rear bumper, it is an awkward fit so I heavily sanded it to the same angle as the body work, especially the driver side and removed it's upper moulding too.
Easier to lay any pinstripe decals.

That's some fine work. Nice job on the front bumper /fascia as well....looks like it was molded that way.

This is perfect! Im glad to know im not the only one who noted that the bodies were not 100% slab-side in 93-94. They still had a small curve at the bottom, but only noticeable if you really were looking and paying attention.

Thank you for the pics and explanation on how you did this. I will be using your technique from now on.

After sawing and start to pull out the body, look at the rear arch area.

Be sure not to make the joint area too concave. More dish will need more putty.

And the two joins. Am now putting a full length of putty from just under character line down to sill edge. Then block wet sand.
I find this is better than repeating sand and refill of the joint lines.
