Does anyone know what purple the Yarbrough Charger was? Dodge did offer the Charger in mauve metallic that year, but the pics of Yarbrough’s car all look like a darker shade than that.

!955 Ford Regency Purple. Lee Roy was a Fireball Roberts fan and that was the color of Fireball's last rides.

I don't know if it's because the pics were taken 55 years ago, but online and in books/magazines it looks like the color had a hint of burgundy that the Regency purple doesn't have.

The guy who painted it for Jon Thorne told me it was '59 Buick Lido Lavender. They were going for a Fireball Roberts homage but they either didn't know exactly what color Fireball's car was painted or more likely the pearl that was applied over the Regency Purple changed it so much that Regency Purple without the pearl isn't a great match (I know this for a fact, plain Regency Purple is much too gray for Fireball's cars). It's also possible they were going for the '63 Firecracker winner which was painted '56 Lincoln Wisteria but with a heavy purple pearl coat for that race. Remember, peoples' memories were affected a bit by the replica Fireball Roberts car in the Weatherly Museum that was painted a completely incorrect color too.

Yes that was a well know fact. Even named his son after Fireball.
Every color photo of the purple charger looks slightly different.
I just tried to match as close as possible.
The bigger problem is trying to get period correct tires under the wheel wells.
I did this one of the #12 . Turned out OK but was far from pleased with
the results.
