I joined, it's a much easier platform to share pictures and post information than PHPBB which is what the current board uses. _________________ Dennis

Very true. Can drag and drop images straight off my desk top instead of having to do an Imgur conversion. Which is free.
Not that Imgur requires a +100 IQ to operate. Nor does this site. But FB just saves 2 or 3 steps to share images. |

Any 'spin off' of this site will affect it.
As a retired computer system analyst I see what FaceSpace does to personal data. Read that 10,000 page agreement where you agree to allowing FaceSpace to see where you drive, shop, spend, who you talk to, what you look at and they profit from and SELL your info.
I'll stay here until someone turns the light out.
Thanks |

I'm with you @DaveVan. It takes someone really "special" to sign a user agreement with the devil (zuckbook). I'll help you turn out @gary66's "not for now" lights. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau

10,000 pages? Hardly. I just went a reread their user agreement. Took about 10 minutes to read through all of it. They don't sell your info to other parties. And for them to "know" everything about you, they know whatever you post. You can turn off any and all permissions at anytime or you can allow FB to access whatever you like on your phone. My FB account is tailored to my needs/interests. I see nothing but old race cars and model related things and some posts by friends.
The new FB page is going to grow because it's easier to use and access. No one has to worry about a photo hosting service. The FB page has also garnered more interest in 24 hours than this site has in almost 2 weeks. |

If you use the FaceSpace app on your phone they do track all your activity. You think Zuckerberg pays thousands of employees so he can provide a free web space for all to enjoy.....he's doing it because he's a good guy??? Thinking FaceSpace makes ZERO $$$$ off your data is naïve. Yep....you can manually go in and restrict SOME things.......almost none do so.....and I trust ALL tech companies as far as I can throw them.
Why do FaceSpace users feel those that refuse to use it are somehow backwards???
FYI look up:
Facebook’s $725M Class Action Settlement
Zuckerberg $500 million in illegal election donations
$1.225 billion in just two items and he's not making money off users data???
Y'all have a good time over there.....I ain't going no matter what. Thx |

Androids are just as bad. They know where you are and where you've been every minute of the day 24/7/365. They know brain dead americans are so hooked on their smartphones that they aren't going anywhere without them.
Everyone was so worried years ago that we would all get a chip implanted in us. Now we gleefully carry that chip everywhere with us. |

I don't know about other parts of the country, but living in the south, this is starting to look like a church split. I'll stay with the old congregation. |

Nothing is going to change for a good while. So, no need to be wringing hands.
If anything is to change, it will be announced in plenty of time for anyone to do whatever they need to do.
But for now, those that want to can check out the new Facebook group, those that don't want to don't have to. |

When I mentioned split in a previous reply, I was thinking people who post something new will place it on one or the other, doubtful on both. |

I will go over there to see the models that are posted but I will not join. I still want to see what everyone is doing but I won't be able to comment and give props to the finely built models. Nobody wants to hear that from me anyway.. |

My thoughts exactly ,this will certainly make this site a forgotten treasure that it once was.
I have heard way to many negatives about Facebook and other sites like it to know better than to join ,

Technically, as long as we have SSN's, driver's licenses, and home addresses, the government is already tracking us. |

My phone has location OFF!! If I want local weather or info my phone has to ask permission for a one time ping of my location. And it keeps me at that location until I say otherwise. Right now my phone still thinks I am in Pulaski VA at the SRX Race!!!! All phones ID you to some extent......a Android allows SOME control by user/owner. |

I like the idea of a Facebook page for discussion but what I hate is that things aren't categorized and saved for easy finding years down the road, so there will be a lot of great photos and info posted on the new site that will be lost in the bowls of Facebook to never be seen again after a few weeks. _________________ Roanoke, VA. |

R.J. I agree with you on that point. We need to set up albums and ask people to tag their posts with some sort of a searchable tag. There is no perfect solution. _________________ Dennis

Here's what I find truly interesting, and one of the many reasons that I will never have a zuckbook account. My wife has had an account for years. Thankfully she's thinking about deleting it. Anyway, I am an avid bass angler. Now that I have returned to the hobby, I guess you can add modeller to that list. She is constantly getting ads on her zuckbook page about fishing lures, bass boats, etc. She doesn't search the Internet for fishing stuff. She's never ordered anything online for me that is fishing related. She doesn't post pictures of me while fishing. She doesn't fish, just goes for boat rides a couple of times a year. I don't know why, or how it happens and don't really care. It's enough for me that it happens. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." No Fakebook for me either. I got on there one time to get some pictures from an outdoor group trip and it instantly went to my address list in email and tried to link me to all the people. Never gave it permission to access my PC or my address book. Deleted account and will never, ever go back in.
For every bit of good coming from social media, there is a whole lot of really bad. |

I never carry my phone in our shop meetings, but one co-worker did. Someone was talking about crane safety and now he gets ads, etc. for crane safety programs, videos and more. He is big on facebook |

Guys, please ease off all the worrying and hand wringing.
Nothing is set in stone. No permanent decisions have been made about anything.
Bob set up the Facebook group page to give us an option should we decide to go that route. For now, and for the at least until the end of the year, this site will be up. Again, nothing has been absolutely decided about anything.
It's not an issue of funding.
Looking at one of the other modeling groups on Facebook, two weekends ago they had over 10,000 members. We have 1100, and half if not more of those have no posts.
From a quick estimate they had over 100 posts, not counting comments, from that weekend alone. While we had maybe 2.
Looking at their members page, a quick estimate looked like they had at least 50 new registrations that weekend, while we had 1.
All that is food for thought.
It's also a sad fact that a good group of guys who were a large part of what went on here are no longer with us. That has hurt a lot.
I'm not trying to sell anybody one way or another. Just calm down, nothing is 100 percent decided yet, but if there is a change there will be plenty of notice so that any pictures, files...etc.... can be saved from here. |

Thanks Gary.......
The 'Graying' ( and passing) of folks is a big part.
I have 11 grandkids.....and in my time left I am trying to do as well for them as my grandfather did for me......thus less model building time.
But I am still here almost every day. Thanks |

I don't mean for this to be argumentive toward Gary's statement, but I prefer a smaller website. I work at a small company, go to a small church, deal with a small bank and grocery store. I get to know the people personally there, much like this board. They become your friends. I have PM'd different members several times and they have always been helpful to the point of going out of their way to do so. Just my thoughts thanks for listening. |

Randys site is like going to a family reunion where as Facebook sites are more like a high school reunion, both are fun but totally different in feel and comfort. _________________ Roanoke, VA. |

I have a very limited amount of activity on anti-social media. I maintain websites to promote my photography business and infrequently dabble in Facebook because clients request I use the medium to post photo galleries of events that I cover for them. I've occasionally used Marketplace to look for goods I'm interested in and have secured very useful pieces of camera gear, power tools and lumber at good prices. And I like to keep track of favourite bands like Monkey House or other jazz artists or venues on there.
But, as I roll through my '60s, nothing in my life can surely be that vital or important that I'm desperate to hide it. So I'm happy to roll over to this site's Facebook page and have a gander. Some nice contributions so far and look forward to more. And to eventually contributing to it. Thanks for creating it. |
