Bill can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Pearson had a textured aluminium panel over the side roll bars next to the seat.

There is a textured aluminum panel on the 70=71 Montego, so likely on the 73 as well.

Was the 76 Cougar actually just a reconfigured 76 Montego,or an all-new car for 1978? Why did the Wood Brothers not use a new 78 Cougar body style?

I've always thought that the Wood Brothers cars were the best looking cars in NASCAR. Still do.

The '74-76 Cougar was based on the Montego with trim differences, and with opera windows.

Not sure if Ford had any say in 1978 bodies for NASCAR, but the Woods might have decided to stick with the style they had so much success with.

I'd be inclined to give the hood contours of a Pearson build a bit of a gentle, overall sanding down. Especially if the resin body is Gerald Smith's (gks1964) commendable casting - which I have several of and quite like.

Multiple reference pics show the hood contours are there in the '73 body, but definitely not as pronounced as what we see in the casting, which is true to the street version. Easy to modify.

Reference pics out there on the intrynet definitely show that the hood contours, while present, are softened to present rounder, less sharply defined edges and shapes.
