Growing up in Jacksonville in the 60's the number one
radio station was the Big Ape -- WAPE. Those of us
lucky enough to have a transistor radio would have it
tuned to AM690. My aunt gave me a nice radio for my
birthday (1962).
Promotion night at Speedway Park featured Wally Masters
2X4 as the Big Ape radio car. Must have been a fun night
with the WAPE DJ's but have to admitt I wasn't there.
WAPE AM is no longer, but the station rocks on at WAPE FM !!!
The 2x4 is gone. So is the speedway. But I still have the AM radio my Aunt
gave me. This picture of the 2x4 & Tommy Rowe is all that's left of that
faithful night. Looks like the grandstands were full !!!

I may not reply to all your posts, but I sure do enjoy looking at all the builds you share. You always have neat "extra" photos that add to the model. Really like the one with the radio |
