Very cool build! How did you do the blue-green-yellow-orange fade?

Wow. I can't tell what's painted and what's a decal on the color changes. Great finish on this car. Looks difficult and like it took some serious time.

Thank you all for the kind replies ... the paint job did indeed take some time and patience. First, the entire body was painted gloss white. Second, the white decal masks were applied to the rear of the white on the nose and sides in preparation for the multiple color coat applications. Next came the red on the trunk lid and the red on the sides, A-pillars, and roof front. Then came the yellow bands on the sides and over the top. That was followed by the green bands. These bands were painted on with a fine tip on my Paasche air brush. The final air brush application was the blue on the rear fenders and rear of the car. The final pieces of paintwork were the black on the glare panel in front of the windshield and on the rear spoiler. Patience was the key to the paint work on this body. If I remember correctly, it took almost a week to get this body painted. You have to be especially careful applying and removing the paint masks and the color coats must be totally dry before proceeding to the next color. These color coats were painted with Testors enamels, so drying times here in the humidity of the southeast usually took multiple hours at best.

All in all, it was a fun build and helped me get a much wanted member of my Terry Labonte collection completed and on display. Thanks again.

John

Another excellent one, John. As always, your paint skills are through the roof Awesome. And the build is super clean as well. And you used Testors enamel. I thought they went out of business.

Excellent work on the paint. I need to suck it up and try a fade job like that. Maybe a little simpler to start with a Tide scheme.

Very impressed with the outcome. Great job.

I read that Rustoleum is starting to produce the Testors and Model Masters brands again. I hope that is true. The article said the only paints they are not going to start supplying again are the metallics (stainless steel, aluminum, etc) in the spray cans. And I used those all over the place. The paints I used for this build were purchased at Hobby Lobby. I just got some Alclad candy enamels and silver base to try on some drag cars.

I do hope that things are going well down on the Texas gulf coast. We are reading here about the probability that Texas is going to suffer massive power outages this summer. Hope you don't get hit with that. Take care my friend.

John

So far so good on the heat. We made it through record heat last week with no power outage, but Rabid Abbott is still the governor so I dont feel safe about not having a future one.

I'm so sorry about that. He makes me ashamed to admit that I'm a native Texan.

I'm not a native Texan but I've been here long enough to be ashamed too. And I never voted for him.

That is very impressive, and a very complex paint job!
