Since I started building "Darkside" era nascars, I have trouble getting smooth finishes and good coverage when painting steel wheels, especially the deeper Holman-Moody style. I would lightly prime them, sometimes brush paint the recessed areas before spraying, tried clearing them, but they never turn out as nice as those I see on the forum. What do y'all do to get the nice even finishes. Thanks |

I use sprays with good, easy to control nozzles like Tamiya. An airbrush is even better, but most spray cans (even hobby sprays) are too wet. |

I brush paint Vallejo acrylic, thinned to a milk like viscosity.
Vallejo thinner produces a semi gloss finish. Replacing some of the Vallejo thinner with a bit of water produces a lower gloss finish.
2-3 thin coats _________________ "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it" - Yogi Berra |

Nice thing about Tamiya is that it goes on thin and leaves a smooth finish. If airbrushing make sure your mixture is not too thick, which can result in a pebbly finish. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |
