DK: Who will rise in Phoenix today? We're about to find out. It's a beautiful day here in the Arizona desert and the 9 drivers of the 2022 Fantasy Cup Series are about to fire it up at the Phoenix Raceway. Hello again, everyone, I'm Dave Knight and joining me as always is NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip. Welcome to the final race of the season; the Discount Tire 300.

DW: Dave, there's always a different feel to the racing at this track. The air is dry, the track is dusty, and today, the championship is on the line. The defending champ Tim "T" Wallace is starting on the front row and he's looking to carry on the Wallace dynasty started by his dad in 2020.

DK: And the voting for best looking car has officially come to a close and the GM Goodwrench Pontiac of JR "Razorback" Sealey receives 5 bonus points and moves him up to 2nd in the standings. 3 past series champions sit at the top of the list and with that, we go trackside for the opening ceremony.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats as the US Army Field Band performs our national anthem."

"And now, race fans, here to give the most famous words in motorsports, please welcome our grand marshal, 9-time bull riding world champion Ty Murray."

TM: Phoenix, lets turn these bulls loose! Drivers, start your engines!

Green Flag

DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' for a championship in Phoenix!

DK: The first of 300 laps is underway and already the championship leader has a problem! He's slow in the dogleg but gets it going again, no caution but he lost a ton of ground to pole sitter Linda Lou Godlewski. She'll lead the field through turns 1 and 2.

DW: Dave, it looked like the 11 of Tim Wallace just missed a shift. He lost a lot of track position but we've still got a long way to go.

DK: Meanwhile up front, Linda Lou Godlewski has a 2 car length advantage over the battle for second between Sealey and Hatterfield. She'll have no problem as she comes out of turn 4 to lead the opening lap in the Discount Tire 300.

Lap 49

DW: I think Wild Bill may have found somethin' because he just picked up 2 spots over Sans and Keith Wallace and he's drawin' a bead on the 17 of Sheldon Hatterfield.

Lap 87

DK: Coming up on green flag stops, something we don't really see until the finale race. Linda Lou Godlewski coming to a stop. It's gonna be 4 tires and fuel. Same for the 2nd an 3rd place drivers JR Sealey and Bill Godlewski. The top 3 remain the same as they exit.

Lap 128

DW: Man, the 11 of Tim Wallace has been really solid since that early mistake but the rest of the field has been pretty evenly matched. He's stuck back in 7th.

Lap 159

DK: Lee Loggins has really been fighting hard since starting at the back. He's just made a huge move to the inside of Tim Wallace in the dogleg to take over the 7th spot.

Lap 217

DK: Bill Godlewski and Keith Wallace are having a heck of a battle for that 3rd spot. Godlewski got loose a few laps ago allowing Wallace to put about 4 car lengths of real estate between them but he's run him down and makes a move from the outside of turn 2 to reclaim the 3rd position.

Lap 277

DK: Trouble in turn 3! It's the leaders Linda Lou Godlewski and JR Sealey!

DW: Ol' Razorback made a heck of a move to the inside but lost it, shot up in front of Linda, bounced off the wall, and spun into her right rear.

DK: And championship contender JR Sealey will have to wait another year to try for a title.

White Flag

DK: And the white flag comes out. 1 lap to go in the 2022 Fantasy Cup Series season.

DW: Wild Bill has been on a rail ever since that last restart and I think Keith Wallace just ran all the good off his tires.

DK: Godlewski continues to widen the gap as he comes out of turn 2. The Championship leader Tim Wallace is hanging tough in the 6th position. He has a 4 point advantage over the patriarch of the Wallace racing family Keith Wallace. The number 72 Ford of Wild Bill Godlewski comes out of turn 4 and down to the line and earns his first Fantasy Cup win in the Discount Tire 300 at Phoenix!

DW: And that win catapulted him to 2nd in the points. But the man on top is the 11 of Tim "T" Wallace!

DK: The Wallace family dynasty continues as he becomes the first ever back to back champion in the Fantasy Cup Series.

1. 72 - Bill Godlewski
2. 23 - Keith Wallace
3. 17 - Sheldon Hatterfield
4. 57 - Sans
5. 5 - Lee Loggins
6. 11 - Tim Wallace
7. 14 - Ken Wallace
8. 56 - Linda Lou Godlewski (Out)
9. 46 - JR Sealey (Out)

DK: So as we conclude another season of Fantasy Cup Series competition, we'd like to thank all of the teams for another exciting season and the fans for joining us. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. We'll see you next year!

BrewDog Motorsports had a pizza party at the local brewery to celebrate the championship. We keep it simple! (I wish I was this lucky in real life !)
