My first build of the year, Schrader's Kodiak Lumina from '91. Monogram kit, painted with MM Classic White, Tamiya TS43 Racing Green, topped with Mr. Super Clear, and decals from Mike.

I really wish Mike would look into double printing or adding an underlay for Cartograf white decals that go over dark colors again. The Kodiak's on the quarters and rears were very transparent, I ended up buying a 2nd sheet to double them.

Thanks for looking,
Joe

One more perfect build from your "factory"
Too bad about the decals but your fix is impeccable.
I really like the hood pins. Are these photo etch pieces?

Pierre, I think those might actually be the kit parts, which when carefully cleaned up, dark washed and dulled down, look quite good.

Really nice model Joe. Stance is perfect.

The 80's/90's era is my favorite for NASCAR. Great looking (and sounding) cars, talented yet still grounded in reality drivers and lots of 'real racin'. Enjoy rewatching those older races on Nascar's YT channel.

Very Awesome build but I'm a little confused. Maybe I'm getting too old. If the car is white, why do you need white underlays?

Great looking model, Joe.

How long have those decals been out? I just finished a Quaker State Buick with the newest Powerslide decal release from a couple of weeks ago and the white seems to cover pretty well. I'll try to get some photos posted later.

The Powerslide sheet doesn't seem to come with the green area. I've searched a few different sources and none of them picture a separate sheet with the green. The fact that the black and gold pinstripes are on the main sheet may also be an indicator.

Thanks Razorback. So the green areas have to be painted on and with out the underlays there would be some green bleed through in the quarter Kodiak decal part . That splains it.

Here's the new Quaker State decals vs an old Revell truck kit decal for reference. They seemed to cover pretty well without having to double up.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it!

The wheels are a little bit of a cocktail. I sprayed them Tamiya Gold first, but I thought they were a little too bright, so I misted a coat of Testors Gold to tone them down a bit.

Hood pins are the kit ones, it's amazing how much detail and depth they molded into them.

I had a similar bleed thru issue when I rebuilt my Petty 200th win car. Those were also Cartograf printed; maybe something has changed compared to the new Quaker State sheet because those look nice and opaque.

Here's a couple pics with and without light, I temporarily stuck one of the extra Kodiak decals on. The K is on the white, while the odiak is single layered on the green.

Thanks again!

Hi Joe,
Sorry I am late to the party on this post, but this has to be one of the cleanest and nicest looking Lumina builds I have seen. The paint, decal work, and stance is fantastic.

Cheers,
Albert

I marvel at the stance and how well you get the wheels to be straight and the indent/outdent is perfection. Please post a thread on how you nail that so perfectly

Joe - all your builds are stunning, this one is no exception. You always seem to nail the stance on each build.
