This is probably a stupid question and I think I might know the answer but, I can't find any documentation to confirm-

What are the domes seen on the trunks of NASCARs in the '80? Communication antenna? The parts were also found in the Monogram kits.

Those were the (then) in car camera transmitter/receivers.
