For sure not a Ray Fox/Junior Johnson 63 Chevy with the
mystery motor. This car was out of Georiga. Expect is used a W head
427 that was available back in 63. know very little about this one. Best I can figure it ran only three times in 63. Twice with Bubba Farr (Daytona), and once with Lee Roy (spring Darlington race).
Never seen a picture of the 71, just this matchbox .

My guess is it used an engine like this

Was probably very "stock", at least compared to the
Ray Fox 3.

Very nice build and a unique color combo. I like it.
Built from the AMT or Revell kit?
Have you done any mods to the chassis?
It's a beauty!

This was done with an AMT body. Undercarriage was not very detailed so I adapted a Monogram Grand National frame, which was a good fit. Roll cage is scratch built from .062 evergreen rod.
Engine wasn’t so good either, but did use the heads & valve covers.
It’s a “conglomeration” but looks pretty good.
PPP tires & rims. A tight fit. Had to do some fender flaring.

Would like to have used the “stock” frame but everything (rear end, springs,
Mufflers etc was molded in.

All the pictures available of the Ray Fox 3 was a big help.
Would have been nice to have found some pictures of the 71, but there just none out there. Even the match box car mis-spelled the sponsor name.

It used a borrowed Mystery Motor with Bubber Farr at Daytona and a Z-11 in its only other start when LeeRoy drove it. Car became Frank Warren's Impala later. It was misspelled "Harison & Gulley" on the actual car at Daytona.

Good information that I never new.
Saw Leeroy run as a local when I was a kid in Jacksonville, but there
Was so little available when he headed north.
When Frank Warren Started running the Native Tan Dodge though that was one of The best looking cars on the track.

Where did the decals come from? That Harrison-Gulley sponsorship was on Ned Jarrett's title-winning '61 Chevy.

Harrison-Gulley was also on the Frank Warren 64 Chevy #79 but spelled “HARISON”. NASCAR records spell the name with two “R’s”. So not really sure what is the correct spelling, but I used the “transitional spelling of “HARRISON”.

Decals are custom made. Don’t think there available by any of the decal makers.

My research on Jarrett's '61 title winner showed that Harrison was spelled with two 'r's. It was only an occasional sponsor for him, likely only when running in North Carolina.

Considering that cars in that era had their sponsorship lettering painted by hand close to race day, there may not have been time to correct the occasional typo.

Anyway, nice job with this car and the decals you made.

A little history on Ned’s 61 Chevy. Car was converted to a late model & driven by Curtis Crider. He was at the local track in Jacksonville & wrecked the car in practice.
Crider worked hard to try to get the car back on the track but to much front end damage. Just managed to get the car on the trailer & headed out the gate.
Late 60’s I guess. Friend of minds Dad worked the gate & always let us in the pits for free.
Trivial, long time ago, but that’s the way I remember it. Crider was a NASCAR driver. That was a big deal at our local JAX track…

Nice build! I would love to get my hands on the Bubber Farr name in 1/64 to convert one to his car.

The story goes that the sign painter was drunk.

Would have done the decals slightly different if I had seen that
picture first. Rare for sure thanks for adding it to the post...

Frank Warren in 1964 with the single "R".
Same car/owner but with 64 sheet metal?

A 1975 Georiga court case. Wouldn't think the courts got
it wrong!!!
Case closed...lol

I'm slightly mistaken about Jarrett's sponsorship - it was in 1962, not 1961. And this photo will do little to settle the debate on the correct spelling:

If you Google search the dealership name, regardless of spelling, pictures of the dealership's old license frames pop up, which should resolve doubts as to the correct spelling. Appears there should only be one 'R' in Harison-Gulley Chevrolet.
