yes,I tried to google this but only found pictures no articles
Whats the story behind the Pearson GTO? is that some kind of ARCA car or other NASCAR division?
He was driving for Wood Brother in the 70s in cup so I am not sure what this GTO is about. And I guess there was no manufacturer contracts for him to drive a Pontiac and Ford during same era
Seems to get a lot of love on these boards thought in terms of making a model. so my interest has gone up on it. |

There doesn't seem to be real deep story here. Pearson ran this car in Winston Cup for Ray Nichels in 1971. This came after Holman Moody and prior to Woods. The car had poor finishes in the few races it ran. Chris Vallo was to sponsor this effort but apparently he was all talk and no money. Nichels never got paid and sued Vallo. Vallo got some jail time and disappeared from view. End of story. It was a very unique and nice car but didn't go leave much of a mark in the history book. |

A lot of interest came from the original issue of the model because it came with a clear body. The car started out Purple/White #33 with Vallo as the sponsor. Then it was STP sponsored and changed to the Pearson #17 from his H&H days.
I agree the STP livery is very sharp looking and there are decals out there for it.
what a waste of 2 Prime years of Pearson's career. his win total would have been even higher if not for these lost years. Also only running the Super Speedways for the Wood Brothers. |
