After not adding a single build to my Winston Cup/Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year project since I envisioned it in 2006, I added 3 cars in 2020 and 1 in 2021, making some decent progress at last. This car, the 1989 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year winner, required the most amount of effort. It is painted Tamiya gold and white primer, which was cleared and polished. The roof rails are scratchbuilt, and the decals are a mix of JNJ, Monogram and unknown, all of which were for the same car but all different. The JNJ sheet provided the numbers, the Miller logos, some of the striping, and the AC. The unknown sheet provided the rest of the striping. The Monogram kit decal provided all the contingencies, the secondary sponsors by the rear wheels, Dick's name and the Buick markings. The white Goodyear on the fenders came from another sheet that I think may have been Blue Ridge, but I no longer remember, and the tire decals are Powerslide. My photos really are not good for this build, I need to reshoot it in the sunlight to do it some justice.
This is actually one of my favorite of the 25 plastic builds I completed in 2020.
The rookie stripe came from a Monogram Jeff Gordon sheet.

This is one of my favorite paint schemes. I was fortunate to get one of these recently and look forward to building it. Yours came out great Billy. |

Super excellent build, Billy. the Tamiya gold really pops with the polished clear over it. Very clean build. I can see why you're so proud of it. |
