So, this was nowhere on my 2021 modeling goal list. Laughing This all started from a hobby shop visit in New Jersey thanks to a work trip. The shop had a full rack of Spaz Stix R/C paints; The Fireball Orange was a perfect match to the HOK Honey Jay Savarese had just used on his 18 Hardee's build, so I figured it was a good time to redo all 5 I had built almost 11 years ago.

Out with the old...

In with the renew...

The black on the 51 cars is Tamiya TS14, the fluorescent green, yellow, pink, and fireball orange are all Spaz Stix straight from the can. Decals from Mike.

The grill on the Exxon car was sprayed gunmetal, and then I put individual .5mm silver decal stripes to replicate the look of the stock grille behind the screen.

As always, thanks for looking.
Joe

Gonna add the #34 Goody’s to the pack when it’s available?

Five cars with some of the best paint schemes perfectly rendered. Your work is impeccable as always.
These models look like full scale race cars. Most impressive!

The paintwork on all 5 cars is awesome. What really stands out (at least to me...) is the grille on the Exxon car...holy cow, I could not believe that you just masked and sprayed - it looks incredibly realistic. Great job!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

No plans for the 34 car; I've never understood the cult-like love for that car. Plus, I don't want to look at another Lumina for a few years now. Laughing

Thanks again.

I remember as you built these one by one! These are beautiful. The correct shade of orange is tough and you got it spot on.

Joe, did you have to clear over the Spaz Stix paint?
Thanks,
Don

Hi Joe.
What is the name of the hobby shop you picked up the paint and location in NJ?

Don, yes they needed clear. I forgot to mention this when I built them, but the Spax paints are enamel. After a couple bake cycles in the dehydrator, I waited a couple days to clear them just to make sure they were dry. When I cleared a couple test spoons it cracked since the base wasn't fully cured and I did the no-no of lacquer over enamel, so it takes some time but the results are good.

Henry, Shadow Hobbies in Woodland Park.

Thanks again guys!
