|
|
After my visit to the Petty Museum last week for PettyFest, I’d like to build Richard’s 1967 Plymouth Belvedere. I have the Sox & Martin 1967 Plymouth kit to start with. I know I’ll use some PPP wheels and tires and will need to scratch-build the rollcage. I took several pics of the car in the Petty museum for reference. Is this the real car? It appeared to be as it had the extra fairing under the rear that old magazine articles showed from that time period.
Any tips, tricks, things to watch out for, or good resources you know of? Are there any threads of other people building this car? I searched but couldn’t find any.
Any help appreciated as I’d like to do this historically dominant car justice.
Thanks. |

when I researched mine I found that some of the cars were 66 that year and some were 67's I built mine as the 66 because that was the car he was in when he finished doing all those wins he had that year. I cant remember how many it was now but it was a lot. I'm sure a Petty afficianado can fill us in. |

I had read that as well. I’ve seen interviews where Richard said they stuck a ‘67 grille in the ‘66 and raced it that way. |

The car I wanted to do was one that they had left the 66 grille in it, so I had to try to make one. Came out okay but not as good as I wanted. |

Didn't Bill Coulter cover this car in his book? _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |

The car in the Petty museum is his only surviving 66/67. There is a replica at Darlington now. The car at the Petty museum used to be on display at Darlington. |

I've got the book. It says "Building a 67 GTX and Detailing a Plymouth Superbird". Both are petty cars. He used a Revell 67 GTX kit and put a Monogram NASCAR T-bird chassis underneath. _________________ Dennis

I have this book and don't find it very helpful for building scale replicas. |

Actually... partially true. Only the front hoop is from a Monogram T-Bird kit. The roll cage was scratch built as pictured in the book by Bill Coulter. I built the 1967 GTX in those photos and I had used the interior tub from the AMT Matador kit. |
