1955 Ford Modified LeeRoy drove & won the 1962 Permatex 250. Car had been
around for years and was pretty much used up when LeeRoy and his team dropped
a big modified engine with lots of carburetors in the car. I always thought it was
Pontiac powerered but it may have been a Lincoln. Either way the car was fast if not
the ugliest car on the track.
Tried not to give this model a showroom look. Wanted it to show its age a bit. Fireball
Roberts ran this car on the beach/road course at Daytona in the 50's as well as the
big speedway when it opened in 1959.
Actually it's a 1955 Ford but had to use an AMT 56 Ford which looks close enough.
Paint was changed from a beige/black to a bright white/black and renumbered to 9 for 1962
crude attempt at streamlining
Fireball Roberts when the car was numbered 22 and beige/black color
Doors opened back in the day. Now black/white numbered 9.

Interesting paint scheme and you captured it perfectly. Always enjoy an obscure car and especially the time someone takes to build a model of it. |
