I just started working on Curtis Turner's 1966 Impala. Does anyone know if at this point were the teams cutting out the front inner fenders or would they still have been in there? Any advice or location of reference photos would be much appreciated. |

Smokey kept them in on his Chevelles, but I have never seen a pic of the 65 Impala engine bay that he ran in 66 nor any other 65-66 Impalas. The 66 Galaxies had them in but then the 66 Fairlanes removed them and were replaced with bracing/front clip. This was kind of a transition period I suppose until everyone went full bracing. So I guess you could go either way.... |

They were cutting if necessary. Unit-body cars like the B body Mopars needed extra reinforcement at the front clip, so bars replaced the panels of the wells. Same with the unit-body Fairlanes which had shock towers incorporated into the wells, and that all was removed when the Galaxie clip went in. (Fun fact: in 1966 Curtis Turner drove the first half-chassis Fairlane)
Are you doing the #47 Toy Bolton owned Impala?
I've seen pics of a model done elsewhere, with the wells in place. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |
