about an old eary '60's AMT kit....
The original 1957 Chevy Be-Air kit, that is still out there and reissued now and then by R2, but they never go back and add all the custom parts from the oriignal release in the early '60's..
I did not buy that kit, but one of my brother's did. this was the kit that options for rather large front and rear add on styline parts.
At some point I inherit that build, usualy when my brother bought another kit. the frame from that build still surives as part of junk box from the late '60's.
Oh, and i have that original instruction sheet. (Drastic Plastic(?) used to have photos of old instruction sheets and that was one of them that were posted)
Anyway, I started counting how many versions one could build from that kit and just from the parts that were in that kit and i came up with at least 24, that's right 24 different versions one could build from that kit alone.
AMT even had an ingenious way for chopping the top to the original kit. Included in the that kit was a clear top that had raised ribs that were thick enough for the roof once it was cut from the body. to make things easy for the builder, on the inside of the front and rear post were indentations where one was to make the right sized cuts. which can still be seen on the front posts but not the rear or where to cut the roof in to quarters. then one was to glue the four separate sections of the roof to the glass top, then putty the seams....

Don't know who well that worked, as my brother did not try that part. I'm just going from the instructions....

AND this count on build options does NOT include tips from George Barris.

This kid did not have the more common screws to attach the frame to the body, like so many of the early '60's AMT kits....
