This past week the local racing community lost a legend in Bill Kimmel Sr. Bill was a racer back in the late 1940's and raced for MANY years in every kind of car imaginable, winning 500+ features over his career. His sons Bill Jr. and Frank dominated the ARCA series winning 10 ARCA championships with Frank driving and Bill calling the shots. I just finished this car....it is Bill Senior's Championship Late Model from Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, Ky.

Great Job Dennis I have been thinking of doing the decals for his 68-69 Chevelle I may do this car as well.. The big issue I have is these type of cars like so many local stock cars are not big sellers I have some now that in almost 2 years have only sold 1-2 copies which puts the stuff I actually do into a class of I want it and will build it myself but it will not sell and will not turn enough to cover the cost of my time in drawing it.

I understand the reluctance to do these types of decals. That is exactly why I bought the ghost white toner so I could do the one off cars that I have a personal connection. I moderate the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway page and we have a pretty substantial photo collection of Kimmel cars if you need some references. As an FYI the paint color on these older Kimmel cars was called Kimmel Red for fun, but was actually GM Victory Red.

Even thou we lived near Chicago my dad took us to that track 2-3 times a year mostly for the big events I grew up at Rockford Speedway, Raceway Park and other Chicago Tracks and a lot of Iowa Dirt Tracks I was always impressed by the Fairgrounds after my dad passed I went down by myself the track was always well kept and the speed the car were going compared to up here was Fantastic. Even met DW and Coo Coo I helped DW and several others load up after a rain out. most of the cars were very well kept and almost all ran extremely well to were the winner was always different. A fantastic place So many Great NASCAR Drivers cut their teeth there as well as the guys like the Kimmel's and so many others. It must have been something to go every week along with some other area tracks....
