Hi all:

Just itching to get started on the Salvinos JR '84 Tim Richmond Pontiac kit.

Anyone know if there is a Tamiya rattle can red paint that is close for this kit ? Or which rattle can spray paint have you used for it ?

Thanks !!

Tamiya TS-8 over grey primer seems to be a good match.

What Bill said Very Happy. I have been hearing nothing but negative fit/part issues with these kits. Is it really that bad of a kit? I have not built one yet so I have no experience. I'll stick with Mono/vell kits and aftermarket decals, at least I know the issues with them. Yours looks great, Bill!!!

OK -- maybe I'm out of the loop on this deal.

I had *thought* that these '80's Pontiacs, Chevys, and Buicks were simply kits from the Monogram molds repackaged.

Is that not the case ????

I've got a few of these '80's Salvinos kits but haven't opened any of them yet.

Thanks

You're probably right Goodwrench, I haven't built one either so I don't know about this kit. In the past though on some other kits I've been hearing how the fit isn't that great or it has some odd parts. I'm rather curious myself since I've never built one yet.

Kits are not bad is it perfect no but what is? I build models for the challenge to make it the way I like so not one will be the same were would we be if Salvino's did't get the tooling no were the hobby we all love would be gone that's just me

Well, according to this YouTube review video, these 1980's Salvinos kits *ARE* the original Monogram molds.

The only difference is that Salvinos didn't get the windshield molds or the tires from the original Monogram production.

Here is the review video link:
https://youtu.be/KRXVro4BfeQ

It may be that there were "fit" issues with those 70's era Salvinos kits -- I'm not sure as I haven't built one. But these 1980's Buicks, Chevys, and Pontiacs are supposedly from the Monogram molds (except for the windshields and tires). The fit quality shouldn't be any different then ?

Thank you for clearing that up fellas!!! As I said, I haven't built one, I was just going off what I've heard here and on FB. It wasn't a slight on anyone in case someone was thinking that Very Happy.

My only wish is that they would put the 5-hole wheels in the older kits. I'll have to rob my stash of Ford kits for those.

no they are not straight re pops of the monogram kits. for some reason salvinos felt they needed to mess with them and ruined them. the roll cages sit too low now in the bodies so the top loop does not tuck up nice and tight to the underside of the roof. they messed with the front bumpers of the pontiac kits so they don't line up with the body and from what i heard they changed the dimensions and shape of the roof of the pontiac kits, maybe others too. that's why the windows do not fit. they also forgot to delete the bumpetts on the 2+2 kit along with forgetting the rear deck trunk lines and rounding off the sides of the rear window. the 2+2 did not have sharp edges like the monte ss did.

Is the chassis on all of the Old Milwaukee Pontiacs the same color as the body?

In the photos I have, it is a red interior -- also was watching some of the '84 and '85 races recently and you can see from the camera shots the red interior.

joeMine went together perfect. The only thing that was fiddley was the windshield and I found the okd Monogram kits were the same way.
