hello all... this build requires some backstory and a bit of self critique...
at some point, i noticed that Slixx had a sponsors sheet with Wirtgen, Ray Williams Properties, and Durst on it, and figured that i could build a Mark Kinser #5m sprint car with these. Was gonna ask MPR Mark to whip me up some numbers, lettering, and orange stripes, when i noticed that there was a later Kinser car that didn't have any stripes on it... so i decided to go with it. The font of the "5" and the "m" were correct on the Slixx number sheet, even if the color (red instead of orange) wasn't... so i went with it. Picked contingencies and some other random decals from numerous Slixx sheets and kit decal sheets, until i thought it looked right. And man, did i eff up the right side tail tank number... hella bad angle. noticed it once the glue was in place, so really didn't feel like messing with it. will just display it from the left side then
started with a Sammy #1 Channellock kit, added some parts from the newest Saldana sprint car kit (air filter, headers, oil tank, rear seat support bars, etc), bead locks and (period incorrect) seat from Customdirtcars Shapeways page, modified the nerf bars so they were closer to correct, added the wing supports made from Evergreen rod, RF wheel mud cover from Dirtmodeler, and i actually used NASCAR tire decals from Powerslide with a little bit of Tamiya Smoke over them... love this look, thanks to whoever it was on here that provided the idea... i think that's it.
so enough with the rambling details, here are the pics of the “other Kinser”
this is probably the last sprint car for a little while, knocked 2 out in the last few weeks and i am waiting for Slot Car Fever to replace the #22 Pennzoil decals that they sent me with the correct ones... so if those ever make it to me, i will have another sprinter to start on. But that's a whole 'nother issue to deal with...
as always, comments and critiques are expected and appreciated. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...
