I have the new Salvino release of the Valvoline Buick and I'm a bit confused. Is the back end black or blue? Midnight blue maybe. It seems to look a little different in each pic I've found. _________________ SUMUS QUOD SUMUS |

Every other thread about this says the back end is black.
And the color guide and decal placement sheet that Powerslide produced says black.
So i would go with black. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

Being a little color blind I was not going to say......
BUT.....Valvoline's colors are red, white, blue and black.....look at the logo. So makes sense. |

I notice the Valvoline on the pit crew shirts is surrounded with black and matches the portion of the car in question to me. |

The back of the # 27 Valvoline Car was indeed Black in 1981 & 1982. It changed to Blue when the sponsorship moved the Wood Brothers # 21 in 1983.
The front bumper filler piece is in its' molded ( i.e. -- unpainted ) black color. Cale Yarborough would continue representing Valvoline in 1983 with an associate sponsorship; this involved the rear trunk & taillight panel -- but not the back bumper -- being painted black with the " Smiling " Valvoline name in white. |

The reasoning for the black might be related to the color of the triangle at the bottom of the V in the logo. There was a Valvoline RACING Oil logo that had the triangle in black rather than dark blue, which was in the mass-market logo. Valvoline may have specified the later sponsored cars to use the dark blue, to match the mass-market logo colors - red, blue, dark blue. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |
