Thanks everyone for the kind words. Like I said in my OP, I often feel like I don't contribute here much, if at all. While spending huge amounts of time enjoying everyone else's builds, my technological shortcomings keep me a "text and link" sort of guy:) but at least now (Thanks again to Pat for posting) ya'll know I do build models!
Also, any questions, or especially critiques, are welcome. (I've got a tough hide)
Very Best,
John |

Very late on this, but is that black or very dark blue on the rear of the car? |

Very Best,
John | That is a build to be proud of. No critique, one tip. a piece of bare metal foil during masking where the stripes cross the door gaps will curb that bleed of the darker color into the gap.
As I remember, some of these cars had black rears and some had blue, yes? _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Nope, just black. There's a blue-reared restoration (replica) of this car that's been at Darlington and several other places I've seen but to anybody's knowledge, including M.C.'s daughter who was the team manager, thru the '81 and '82 season it was only black. One ex-crew guy said he thought it was scheduled to be blue for '83 but Mr. Anderson pulled out at the end of '82 and none were done in blue. In the last race at Atlanta for the team, It was definitely black.

If I'm not mistaken, the diecast of this car has blue on it and between that and the replica, it has a lot of people under the impression the rear was blue at some point. Except for the first race Cale ran this livery in '81 where the interior had some red in it, the appearance of the car did not change to speak of. The numeral outline color did change a little but nothing major
I can't get it to link, but if you'll check on page 2 here in the grayside section under "M.C. Anderson/Cale Shop pics", it has close up shots of the car that was the workhorse of the'81 season (according to pics) and but for small tweaks, looked that way throughout.

Joe, that's a combination of a Powerslide '83 Buddy Baker T-Bird #21, a Fred Cady sheet and a Penngwen sheet.
The blue stripes are from the Baker Valvoline T-Bird sheet as it is a near match to the blue on Cale's car but is still a tad bright. It is closer to the correct blue stripes than the new Powerslide sheet however.
When I get to that point on the one I've recently started, I'm going to spray the blue and red stripes instead of using decals and use the new Powerslide sheet for the rest.
The rear of the car was BLACK for the entire two years that M.C ran that livery. There has been a lot of confusion about that because a tribute car is blue reared (like all Valvoline livery's after '82) and then the diecast was issued with blue (based on the tribute?) but the real car ran every race it ran in '81 and '82 with a black rear section.
There are some shots of Cale's main '81 car that I took at M.C.'s shop in '81 in this section (Grayside) under M.C. Anderson/ Cale shop pics on page two.
