Just kidding. This isn't a NASCAR color question so, it goes here. (?) Anyhoo, I'm gearing up to do a model of ex General Lee turned film star, the "Drive Angry" Charger. (I want to do a number of cars from this film).

The issue: Question google about it and you'll be told the car is Matte black. Never found out who Matte is or why he deserves his own color but, for another day. I've seen photos of the car depicting semi gloss black, matte black and dut, dut, daaaaah... Midnight blue.

Watching the film, I'm seeing both as well. It does look for the most part of the film, to be black. However there are scenes in which it has obvious blue visible. There is the possibility, they used gels or lighting to get the effect.
It's a standard '69 Charger with a 440, nothing special other than the day two Vector wheels so a straightforward build. I just refuse to start it until I have a definite on color.

IF we can't come to agreement, I thought of this:The car was obviously a pre-owned purchase by Piper's boyfriend. My thinking is, the car was originally a dark blue, faded and rusty. After a little light bodywork he did what any jerk like him would do. He got money from her and took his dirt bag butt to the western auto to grab a half dozen cans of black primer. This may be how I ultimately portray the car.

Stop it! Look at the CAR! Wink

Grant you, half the available reference photos on goggle are of incorrect replicas so, weeding through them is half the fun. The two photos above I BELEIVE, are the same car. So what do you think guys?

And as an aside, William Fitchner as "The Accountant" is the main reason to watch this B movie... and the cars of course.

It's really nice looking car....but it's not an Ex General Lee...it has the General Lee wheels, but this isn't one. I checked with the expert on which cars are which and went where after production of the show and movies. He confirmed the Drive Angry, Death Proof and Grindhouse cars are not old Lees

I kinda figured as much to be honest. Likely they used the wheels just to grab that much more attention. I'm watching the film again now and they're at the warehouse scene. In this particular shot the car is definitely dark blue with a patchwork of black primer.

Thank you for specifying. Wink Unfamiliar with hot rod grey. May I assume it's a very dark grey?

It’s the color primer that Penske uses for their test cars, if that helps.
