When you say Mike Duvall most everyone thinks about the Flintstone Flyer. Long time fans like me however remember life before those days, with a series of red and gold Camaros, numbers straight off a five dollar bill, and my buddy Earl's Speed and Custom on the doors. Mike Duvall in those days was a hard nose, take no prisoners racer. He was tough as nails and when he pulled in the track you knew it was going to be an interesting night to say the least. He didn't come to the track to make friends or fans. He came to win the race no matter if he had to drive around, over, under, or through you and he was fully prepared to do whichever it took. I saw him race a good bit back then at Cherokee, Metrolina, and Carolina and became a fan. I've built many Mike Duvall models over the years and just finished this one up.

Great job Jackie. I saw Mike run and win a ton of races at Cherokee Speedway in the red and gold camaros. My favorite was the 67 camaro. I also remember the camaro Barry Wright built for a long Mike to run the modified race at Daytona. Believe it was the only car Barry ever built for a paved course.

You've probably painted that Earl's logo so much you could do it in your sleep.
Big Mike , in addition to being a great, great, driver was always there for the fans, especially children. He looked intimidating but put a couple of kids with him and he'd just melt. We loved him . |
