What year?
When he was with Nichels or on his own, 1971 and later? |

Actually I need it for 1970 and 1971. Sorry for not being more specific.

IIRC, somebody asked about Don White's yellow Dodges a while back, and someone else said it was a 1960's Dodge Truck color.
Looking at the paint chips, Mojave Yellow looks like the only candidate.

That color chart is WOW !!! . I never knew DODGE had so many colors available for their pickups. I only knew of Fire Dept. Red, Air Force Blue, Forest Service Green, Highway Dept. Yellow, White, Black, & Tan.
BTW, the " Omaha Orange " color was actually a Great Northern Railway standard color, along with Pullman Green ( close to " Bell Green # 2 " ). And I would swear my dad's 1969 DODGE shop truck was painted New York Central Railroad Perlman Green, pretty close to " Light Green IRID. " |

Mojave Yellow is the hue for his Nichels cars through 1970 and his early 70's cars run as an independent. A friend had asked Don many years ago at a racing dinner about the color, and he said it was a Dodge truck, "some Indian color". Not too hard to figure out from there.
We did find a gallon of later model Mopar Sunfire Yellow in his shop several years ago. Probably used on the Aspens. |

His '63-64 Galaxies were Phonecian Yellow. Model Master actually sold it in the spray cans if you can find it anywhere ....good luck MCW sells it also. |

National School Bus Yellow is actually mandated by the Feds in their national standards and regulations. It is yellow (orange) in the same way that Poppy Red is red (red orange). Just go with it. I've heard Ford's 1970 & 71 Trans Am Mustangs were painted National School Bus Yellow based on photo interpretation but I've often wondered if it was actually Grabber Orange. I saw the same thing the first time I saw Ernie Irvan's Texaco Thunderbird. The hood logo was always shown to be in normal Texaco red but when I saw it in person, it was far closer to dayglo red. |

On the flip side of the color chart, it tells you what year the colors were available.
They weren't all available from 64 to 69. |

I've heard that Bud Moore's team switched to the school bus yellow color for the Trans-Am Mustangs in 1970 for the same reason it's mandatory for school buses - visibility. The Bud Moore Mustangs were painted red and black during the 1969 season, and the crew complained that the cars were too hard to track visually. Maybe it was Grabber Orange? Whichever color it is, I assume it's the same color used on the 1972 Torino when he returned to NASCAR.

And a cool hauler, too.
I know the guy that owns Jr. Johnson's 1960's Ford hauler.
Man, that would make a great pairing with Lee Roy's Ford Talladega.
Anyone know who owns that car today? |

That is incorrect. (so is the claim that T/A cars used a 780 cfm carb...like the street cars). Never trust a scribbler. The paint on Bud's T/A Mustangs in 70 and 71 and on his first 72 Torinos was National School Bus Yellow. This from Bud Moore's lips to my ears. Grabber Orange was not quite as orange.
Is that the new book that just came out? If so,that is the first page I have seen of that new book (written by an Australian or New Zealand guy IIRC. Not too sure I am going to waste any money on it it that page is representative. |

Next to "use a toothpick to paint wheel lugs" that is the most useful piece of advice I have learned on these forums. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |

Curious that Ford, when they were spending large sums of money on their Trans-Am program in order to promote sales of the Mustang, would allow Bud Moore to paint the cars a color not available from the factory. |

Not really. Especially so since neither Bud's Mustang's nor Shelby's Boss 302s...the T/A season *before*... were painted in factory colors. Ditto for Bud's T/A Cougars in 1967 and Shelby's T/A Mustangs in 1968. So the use of non Factory colors in 1970 really wasn't a deviation.
The reason for the switch to School Bus Yellow for the 70 season was to make the cars more visible to the team as that made their way around the track. It was reasoned that there really wasn't another color that better served that purpose than DOT or school bus yellow. |
