This was the primary car for the 1969 Daytona 500. Wrecked before the 500. I wanted to do the 500 winner but none of my 3 sheets of decals had quite the correct lettering. Polar Lights kit, Tamiya racing white paint and a mix of Yesterday's, Fred Cady and PL Merc kit decals. 427 engine.
Lots of patience required for the PL Talladega but came out good overall. I painted a scale speckled finish on the interior and added some roll bar padding.

Nice job! Looks really good, and I agree, the gray speckled paint looks nice as well.

My favorite driver and I was there for this race.
Never forget being overjoyed when Lee Roy won. Can
Still see in my mind that last lap pass of Chargin Charle
And Lee Roy riding around the track in a convertible waving to the crowd
for a much deserved victory lap.

Great job in a fantastic car !!!

looks great bill. i have two questions. one of course is how you did the speckle paint but the other is both your builds are Talladega's. why does the side say cobra? engine size?

Thank you Joe. The speckle paint is Gloss Gull Gray with acrylic white and black dotted on top. I thin and paint the gull gray as normal than splatter the white and black on, I do not thin the white or black, just let is sputter out. It does clog up an airbrush fairly quickly but I usually get the splatters on before it clogs.

At the beginning of the 1969 season the Boss 429 was not allowed by NASCAR. Ford did not want the Talladega name on the car unless it had the 429. So, initially the Fords were marked as Torino Cobras. The Lee Roy car was from Daytona and ran the 427 and was marked as a Cobra for the Daytona races. Later in the year most were marked as Talladegas but by 1970 they mostly were marked as Torino Cobras again. I think that was because the Talladega was a 69 only model and the cars raced in 1970 were marked as Cobras because it was a showroom model, although the body style had changed for 1970. So, you can find pictures of all sorts of markings and both 427 and 429 cars. Depends on the race and the year. David Pearson's car seemed to have different markings almost every race in 69 and 70.
