The thread title pretty much says it all. I just scanned some family home movies shot from the north turn stands of the final three days of Speedweeks 1956. Modified-Sportsman, Convertible, and Grand National races.
I'm prejudiced because family shot this, but I think it maybe shows more what it was like being at a Beach race than the usual highlight footage we see. This shows how much chaos really went on during a beach race. Looking at it from a 2018 perspective it seems pretty crazy - crashed cars being left on course, people running out to cars on track, cars burning trackside. The foundation of the sport.
Enjoy!

Very interesting film, thanks. Crazy how many cars ran in those days. |
