That's the million dollar question. Don't think there's a rattle can match off the shelf.
The car was reddish orange.

Dupli-color makes two Chevy engine oranges, 1607 and 1620 maybe one of them?

I haven't tried Hemi-orange....you'd think the car was a Dodge color.

Testors Gloss Bright Red is actually orange....that might work.

But the car was not RED as it looks on most photos.

Actual color was '65 Ford Mustang Poppy Red. MCW used to make a spray can cross reference for it, I think he listed it as Competition Orange because that's what Mercury called the same color when they re-used it in 1970.

Tom is correct. It was Ford Poppy Red. Gravity Paints has it for airbrushing. I make my own Poppy Red by using Testor's Hugger Orange lacquer and dropping a few drops of Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red lacquer into it. Ratio is about 3 drops of the red into 1 oz. of the Hugger Orange. This is approximate. I usually just "eye-ball" it until it looks about right. Don't know of any straight from the rattle can.

Hope this helps.

The best I could find with rattle-can Poppy Red is around $24 for a tall can. Since I have a 1/16 Charger as well as a 1/25 Talladega planned, it should cover both so the investment works ok for me.

I used Testors Competition Orange as I had read it was very close to Poppy Red. Once done I'm pretty sure it came out a bit too orange though..

What color primer did you use? I would have used the rust red primer.

Gray. In hind sight the red oxide primer would have been a much better choice.

...If I could make a suggestion: why not go to an auto body supply store that can make you a rattle can mixed with the paint-code specific paint. I have done this several times and the 24 dollar investment is well worth it to have exactly the colour that I want with the bonus of no air brush cleaning after.
