Nice work. Flared out the front wheel openings a bit? |

That is OUTSTANDING. Love the stance, especially the rake- just right. This gives me hope for the one I've started. One question- are those the kit tires that you used or something different? Whatever the case, that second pic could be the 1:1. I asked my wife to look at the driver side pic and asked her if it was real or a model and her reply after studying it several seconds was " there is no way to tell from the picture". Not sure that isn't as good as it gets!

first...thanks for the kind words...
i used the good old Monogram hard rubber tires...the kit tires were just too wimpy...i sanded them down to knock the finish off...then shot them with a coat of clear gloss...applied the decals...then a shot of dull coat. (this is kinda a trial and error thing...sand too much and they look wonky...i think over time they develop a coat of something from age...being handled...oxidation..?)
the wheels are Monogram 9 holers with the windows drilled out...i shot them with a coat of Rusto Bright Coat Metallic Finish silver to give them that raced look. _________________

nice build scooter. got to try that bright coat silver, they look good.
did you apply the decal over the slotted side window with a lot of micro sol or paint?
also is tom m's tutorial on this build still around somewhere?

thank you...
yeah...i laid the decal down and started hitting it will the Walther's...i waited maybe 5-10 minutes then...(with a very sharp) xacto started cutting at each slot...i used a toothpick to move the pieces around till they were in position...after they were dry i took a red extra-fine sharpie and filled in the areas the decal didn't cover...
and that rusto silver was shot right on top of the chrome...i didn't know if it would work...i really like they way they turned out.
i have been looking for that tutorial on the Wayback Machine... _________________

The AAR Cuda T/A? Mike's Decals is producing a new sheet to do either Dan Gurney's or Swede Savage's car, they should be released soon. Waiting for them to be available to finish the build - thanks for asking. |
