Below is a photo of me in my 66 Mustang at Charlotte on the ROVAL, what we called the road course, in 1976!! The event was a SCCA Solo One event where we set up cones but basically ran the full circuit. This photo is what they call ROVAL 3 now.....if you note the tail end is coming around a little!! Good old days when I was much braver!!
BTW I'll be at the track this weekend if anyone needs some road race hints!!

I agree. The "Roval" is nothing new. I worked pit crew for a couple of teams that ran the SCRRC(Stock Car Road Racing Championship) Series from 2004-2008. We raced the "Roval" at Charlotte in June 2005. We also raced the "Roval" at Daytona to end the season in Nov. 2005. Then did the "Roval" at Rockingham in 2006....
And if you were wondering. The Stock Car Road Racing Championship was a series that ran NASCAR style Late Models on Road Courses on the east coast. Mainly ran with events by SCCA, NASA, or HSR. The series started in the early 2000's. But shut down after the 2008 season due to the owner having financial issues with his main business in FL. |

The Charlotte 'Roval' was also used in development of the NASCAR LR series that never happened. Cars were built and tested....but never got any further. Anyone recall that series??? |

Dave, I do. As I remember it was going to be part of the cup season and they'd run x number of races during the season. IIRC the cars were gonna be smaller than the normal cup cars.

Here is a video talking about the series that was under development in 1986.
Someone commented that Bobby ran the Buick at Daytona in the 24 hrs race in 1987 if so this is most likely the car.
