|
Finished one that's been a long time coming. First posting since the server issue/re-registration. This is the 1982 Oldsmobile that A.J. Foyt drove in 1982, built from the Revell 1983 Hurst Olds and 1990 AMT Olds Chassis. Once the fenders were modified to fit the tires, I had to do this car as a curbside due to the nose kept wanting to fall off. The only simple way to fix this was to glue the hood shut. I've included the in-process pics to show the various areas that were reworked. I had to rake the whole front down and then angle the nose back up using evergreen strips. I flared and re-radiused the wheel openings, added the fuel filler and overflow openings and removed the bulge in the hood. I also added to the A-pillar and window openings as they looked to the pics that I had.
The paint used was the Rustoleum Poppy Red satin with the Rustoleum clear on the paint only. Decals were a combination of Fred Cady decals from Mike's & Indycals 1982 Foyt Indy decals, plus contingencies from Mike's as well.
Also, the wheel were sourced from Bennett Racing Replicas before he passed away.
I wasn't too worried about this car being super accurate to any particular race or even in general. I just wanted this car on my shelf and for it to make me stop every time I walk by. It does that just fine.
Thanks for looking.

That looks fabulous! In fact, THAT'S what I want my '80s builds to look like-great job.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I had to make a windshield since the kit windshield left a gap at the cowl. I didn't figure that out until the chassis was completed and the body painted. It's not completely accurate, but it worked out.
This was my first attempt at converting a street car to a stock car and dealing with the fenders. Each one was a slightly different tactic, but mostly it was hack, heat, pull and glue.
