Hey! OldTrucker here, formerly known as Johnnys1977!
Figured now was the time to align my name with the other sites I haunt! Laughing
Guess this place starts at day one now?
Shame if we never get all or some that was lost back. That was a treasure trove of information. Sad

Bob deserves the credit... he's the one who set it up to begin with way back in the day when I had a very "little" place to try to post pics and offered to make it part of his site! It all sprang from his offer to help me! Thanks again my friend Very Happy

Hello again,

Glad to see the site back. Nice to see the registration and log in process are working effortlessly. Just re-entered all my old info and worked first time.

Good luck to all in restoring an interesting place to learn about NASCAR.

I'm happy to see the site functioning about as normal as possible so far. No problem posting words or pictures. Registering under my old name and password worked fine and no issues logging in.

Props to the admin team for working away to begin restoring image and information files, especially on the Dark- and Grayside threads.

What disappoints and shocks me is to head over to other forums and read uncalled-for disparaging and, frankly, quite insulting remarks while the site was out, citing their (quite minor, really) frustrations at not being able to view the site. Comments peppered with calls to visit other forums instead. This from people who have frequented and contributed to it for many years.

This site has been a great source of information, support and encouragement for a great many people. Those who have operated this site have provided many years of invaluable service and deserve far better treatment than to be publicly belittled when technical difficulties caused problems.

Sure, there's a huge hole right now. The more hands pitch in, the quicker it will begin to fill up. If participating in a forum is all about instant gratification and worship, well, go where you gotta go. But slap on a muffler and please do it quietly. There's no need to insult this place with dismissive remarks. It's earned better treatment than that.

There's Dave!!! welcome back.

yes i would like to know too. it's a shame, we had so much greatinfo, technique and reference photos. one positive is a lot of those tips and techniques that had photos were gone anyway with the photobucket troubles so maybe they can be reposted with the photos again.

HUGE THANKS to Bob Hanner for his diligence and hard work getting this site back. Thanks to Randy for not just throwing in the towel and giving it all up.

As for recovering the lost data, there is a glimmer of hope that some of it can be restored. The Wayback Machine has a fair amount of these pages archived and just need to be brought over. A brief check revealed that a good portion of the stickies are archived but if they are more than 2 or 3 pages long the last couple of pages were not saved. A random sampling of the non-sticky pages was less promising but yet there is some of it still archived.

Another issue is recovering "lost" photos from all the Photobucket accounts. I recall a large number of us used Photobucket and in looking for archived pages, often I found the threads but all the pics were lost. So it will take a good bit of time and a huge amount of member cooperation to restore everything that was lost. I'm confident we'll get there.

It's good to be back.... better than that, its good to have a place to come back to! Very Happy

Got back on from reading a post between MarkJ and Dave. What a mess. I think I enjoyed things more when we read mags and worked books and pencils---a skill that is rapidly going away. I'm getting too old for this crap.
