How , exactly, would you go about modifying the Amt '66 Galaxie body?

I know about the trim/badges that need to removed for all Galaxies and making a fuel filler hole in the right place. I'm talking about specific cuts/splices...etc... to make the banana body, or close.

I'm hoping for sveral different things to try, I know everybody doesn't think alike, and Junior Johnson, to this day, will not discuss what he did to make that body look like that.

I would take a pie slice out right above the front tire in the wheel opening. Bend both front fenders down above the tires. On the rear I would cut a couple of straight lines upward in the quarter panel. I'd do this behind the wheel opening, so you could slightly bend the quarter panels upward behind the tires. May have to cut about three slices. I'd try to avoid spreading the wheel opening if possible. Just some thoughts. I started one of these years ago. I think I traded it off for something else. I'd love to see your progress.

In photos I have seen of the Yellow Banana, it appears the entire front sheet metal and grille were moved down, and the rear of the hood while still mostly a straight piece was sticking up above the cowl panel. Hence I would try cutting the front fenders & grille off as a unit, right at the front edge of the door seams. Then reposition the entire front end nose down slightly. The front bumper appears to have kept the same mounting points, which meant the bumper covered the lower half of both lower headlights.
Don't forget to chop the roof 2 scale inches or so.

A project that I've contemplated but haven't tried yet. I would have to get a good side view picture and start whacking away at it. However you do it please post a wip as it would help a lot of us.

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how it was likely done.

First, the drooped nose and windshield/A-post chops were already done before the rear was banana'd so that needs to be a separate discussion. Keeping in mind that the car was quickly and rather seamlessly converted to the Banana and then back to a more normal Galaxie (it finished its career with Clyde Lynn as a Galaxie that fit all the templates) I think it's safe to say that the rear bumper and taillights weren't raised, that would have exposed the rear of the frame below the bumper. Based on the size and shape of the side window openings, the shape of the lower edge of the side window openings and the fender peak at the top of the beltline, and the shape of the lower styling crease ahead of and behind the rear wheelwell I believe the rear quarters and maybe the front doors were sectioned about 2" and the entire rear clip along with the rear of the roof were rotated around the rear bumper to make the rear of the roof match the front of the roof. The body was then spliced back together in front of the wheelwell and along the fender peak at the beltline. The hump in the beltline crease that the '66 had is gone, it's straight like a '65 and doesn't rise up over the rear wheels then droop back down. Junior may have spliced in an entire '65 quarter from the door to the are above the wheelwell to piece it all back together.
