Agreed.....Alan was a great person....much less a great driver. Alan always aloud me in his shop when I needed pics for some freelance work I was doing at the time. He went to church with my boss during the off season and never acted 'famous'. _________________ MK stock car build hints and many of my built models here........

My oldest son went to a race with a group from school. He was walking through the garage area when he felt a hand on his shoulder and someone said stand still for a minute!
My son thought a bee was on him or something and thought it was the teacher who took them there.
He felt movement on his back then a driver came around from behind him and said "go down by the 28 garage, that should make him happy" and walked on.
My son did not know any of the drivers but the teacher did and told him Alan Kulwicki had just signed his "Davy Allison" shirt!!
He still has it put away today! _________________ A Model, Like Life, Is What Ever You Choose To Make Of It! |

Wow. 19 years? Seems like only yesterday. This sport lost someone truly special when he passed away. _________________ My real name is Jeff

I was among the lucky fans in attendance @ the 1st Cup race in Phoenix when Alan won his 1st Cup race. Like so many others in the infield, in my rush to get to Victory Circle I missed his Polish Victory Lap. A model car friend of mine was one of Alan's volunteer crew members, while my best NASCAR buddy and modeler friend Wayne just about jumped out of his skin when " The UNDERdog " won in a FORD !!!
Wayne was watching with me, television coverage of the Bristol race when news of Alan's death was announced. We both cried openly, as even now I tear up at the thought of our sport losing a Great Champion. Alan Kulwicki was a real racer who slay all the giants to win The Cup, only to lose his life some 6 months later before he could really enjoy it. |

I was fortunate enough to have met him at the Hooters in Knoxville, TN, the night of the crash. It was the appearance he was doing before flying to Bristol for the race. He genuinely seemed like a nice guy who enjoyed meeting the fans.
When my mom woke me the next morning and told me the news, I was devastated. Alan was a hero of mine: an educated, articulate man in stock car racing. _________________ Stay away from Moveras rebuilt transmissions, whatever you do! |

Wow.
I remember them showing news footage of his appearance at Hooters that night. _________________ "A good racer is one whose head is in communication with his." - Richie Evans

| I bet today was a really special day for Tony Gibson. 19 years after his boss is killed, he gets a win as a crew chief. It was a special day for me, I was a huge Alan Kulwicki fan, and am now a Ryan Newman fan. This is also the first time in 22 years as a NASCAR fan that my driver has won a race I attended. |

Doesn't seem like that long ago, but I can remember to this day, where I was when I heard the news that next morning. _________________ Early bird gets the worm, 2nd mouse gets the cheese... |

I remember just before going to bed that night hearing something about the possibility of his plane crashing. So, I stayed up HOPING it wasn't true. Sadly, it was. _________________ ON THE BENCH:

Fitting too that Ryan Newman is an engineer like Alan. _________________ The Dark Side, when cars were steel, bumpers were chrome and men were iron...

I was having a camp out birthday party. We stayed up late in my tent building Lego creations and listening to Southern Culture on the Skids. We finished the SCOTS tapes and turned on the radio. There was a breaking story about Alan's plane missing. I was all kinds of sad the rest of that night and I remember the report the next morning about his death. |

Tough to watch the video of his 1992 champions speech, he's truly missed.... that was a tough day, I was a HUGE Bill Elliott fan, but was really glad Alan got the Cup that year. The last of his kind, for sure, you are not forgotten, Alan... _________________ Be positive and love your life...

I grew up watching Kulwicki race at Slinger Speedway..... I saw him win his first major ASA race at Milwaukee.... I got to see him race in the 1992 Southern 500.... My wife and two year old daughter went to Alan Kulwicki Day in Greenfield and got his autograph for me..... I still miss him _________________ You aren't paid to believe in the power of your dreams. |
