| Was going to buy my first resin parts. A hood and some wheels. Is there any trick or special steps to using these? Or do I just paint and glue hem as if they were parts from the standard kit? |

Clean them with Wesley's Bleach White first and super glue is the way to glue them up. _________________ Steve

Because of the mold release agent they use to cast resin parts, you'll need to soak your resin before doing anything else. I use Simoniz tire cleaner. Got myself a container and I let my parts soak for a bare mininum of 24 hours. Then wash all your parts with mild soap and water. I also use an old toothbrush when cleaning them.
One major thing to remember when getting rid of all the 'flash' on your parts: Use a respirator mask! Resin dust is comparable to asbestos. You do not want to breathe that stuff in...and using your shirt won't help If you don't have one, get one.
Sometimes there are pinholes in resin. That can be filled using superglue. Then sand...easy fix. Make sure you primer your parts too. Sometimes, some paints won't adhere properly so it's best to prime all your resin parts.
And 1 final major thing. If you mess up and want to strip your resin parts of paint, under no circumstances should you let them soak in Castrol Super Clean!!!! It'll turn your parts into swiss cheese. I'm not exactly sure what you should use instead, but don't use CSC. Good luck to you! _________________ My real name is Jeff

New to resin also, but I did take some old paint off of parts I got off of ebay that were painted with easy-off oven cleaner. If this helps. _________________ The Bench - http://lee2763.smugmug.com/ |
