200 MPH+. I know you have heard all the comments, but this has to be one of the most impressive dioramas I have ever had the pleasure of seeing, let alone the in progress shots! Your work is simply amazing and this whole project should be submitted for publication. Thank you for sharing the in-progress shots to the mere mortal builders amongst us!

Big thanks guys!
cb1000, thanks for the websites, they have been a huge help! I've also found some other sources online as well. It looks like oils are the way to go. I picked up the most recommended oil colors by Winsor & Newton and Grumbacher. I agree big time about the brushes. I learned a long time ago the value of high quality brushes. I have about 40 brushes, red sable, silver sable, etc., some over 20 years old.

I have two sets of 1/24 Fujimi Mechanics (8 figures), They are primed and base coated. I'll start practicing tomorrow. At this point, I think the eyes are going to be the most challenging part of the figure.

I agree with oils are the best. also the quality of the figure is a big part of the end results.

I like to paint my base colors in acrylics and then go over top with oils to add in shadows and blending of the tones.

heres a 1/24 dude I'm painting. still a work in progress.

That figure looks great! (and that Woody is pretty fantastic too) Thanks for the pix. All the shading and shadowing is impressive.
I'm starting to get a little jazzed about trying this. Thanks again.

The right side of the Dio seemed a little bare to me so I knocked out a machanic's tool cart/ stand to sit beside Maurice. (this also made more sense than tools lying on the floor around the engine LOL)

Wow that looks like rubber mat liners! That would be good to sit beside him and lay some hand tools on the top and maybe valve covers on the bottom? The cool things about dioramas are the possibilities are endless!

Got my light switches and electrical outlets in the mail today. They are great! I'll start applying the oils to Maurice tonight and totally finishing up the base tomorrow or Wednesday.

Little help guys, I made up a few shop rags to lay around. If I recall, the shop rags of the era were the faded out red (pinkish)???? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Well, Maurice ended up in the purple bath this weekend. The good news is he's about 90% done now. While the oils were drying, I added the shop rags to the base and made one for Maurice's pocket.

I'm not 100% pleased with the figure but this is the finished Dio with Maurice. (for now)

The hair ,I guess, is a rough thing to duplicate. I think Maurice had more of a G.I. JOE cut, and your figure is closer to a Fred Lorenzen.

Now there's a great idea: A NASCAR tupee line!

The diorama is fantastic, nothing like it. applause

Simply amazing! My first thought is that it looks too clean. However, many engine builder's shops are surgical clean. I can't argue that Maurice's would not have been spotless. If you can't get this gem in front of Richard's eyes, maybe Steve Hmeil would be able to get word to him to see the photos.
