PostPosted: Fri May 04, 2018 9:45 am    Post subject: Old short track stock car photo thread Reply with quote

Hey all,
A number of years ago I started to collect photos of old short track cars as motivation and reference for short track model building projects. I ended up with a folder on my computer full of images I collected but didn't reference the context, physical location of the subject matter, or where I got them from (which all would have been very time consuming).

A number of these photos were obtained over 10 years ago, and it's likely many of these aren't even on the internet anymore as I've noticed a number of sites seem to disappear after awhile for various reasons.

So with all that in mind I thought I'd start a thread for those like me who have an interest in old local short track cars and would like to see photos like this and have them available for reference to see how it was done back then. One thing that comes to mind is that it seemed like there were as many sets of rules as there were tracks, so there will be a lot of variability in terms of wheels, tires, exhaust, roll cages, etc etc.

If any of these photos belong to you and you would like them removed from this thread, just let me know and I'll remove them. As mentioned I collected them a long time ago for personal use and thus didn't keep track of whether they were copyrighted or not. I can say for sure that none of these photos were taken by me, so I don't claim ownership to any of them.

Here goes. Feel free to add your own as you wish.

A few more. Note that they are quite random, not organized in any fashion whatsoever, just how they are arranged in my computer file.

I have lots of pictures from Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, Ky. Many ASA, ARCA races from the 60's and 70's were run here besides some pretty fair local racers......Seems a young D.W. showed up here with an old ford......got that picture too...

I don't know if this is the place to put this or not but a while back I asked if people would be interested in any short track decals I got a lot of ideas and suggestions I ended up doing the ones below the sales have been very good on them
Pokey West 1957 Chevy
Jim Bickerstaff 1961 Chevy
Andy Hampton 1969 Chevelle
Ray Hendrick 1969 Chevelle
Johnny Benson Sr 1970 Chevelle
Ray Nece 1970 Monte Carlo

I have others planned all mine are printed on high quality clear decal paper and I will listen to any suggestions but I like seeing threads like this for ideas as well...

I honestly don't have any details on the pics as they are just some that I've archived over the years, but perhaps a fellow Canadian member can help out.

This is a great thread. I do think I could literally sit here and look at these all day.
Please keep them coming! Love that #8 Fairlane with the Thunderbolt looking hood on it.

Those early Trickle shots are great I really like the # 91 Red Torino up farther in fact I am thinking of doing the decals for it using one of my Alps Printers and his restored Mustang is located in Wayne Lensings Museum about 10 miles from me, he has other great cars as well like Richard Petty's 60 Plymouth and many others if your in the Rockford Illinois area his place is a MUST See...

Hemiman, thanks for the Rockford Speedway pics. I'll second your comments about the museum. Been there several times and it is a great place to spend several hours looking at everything.
