They will have no choice after 2022. The ONLY passenger car made by Ford will be the Mustang.

Here's a great business model opportunity for Na$car......

a.) Start a new series for SUV's (same body template with decals for the lights & front grille showing the difference between the auto manufactures).

OR

b) Just change the "Cup Series" to only SUV eligible vehicles (same body template with decals for the lights & front grille showing the difference between the auto manufactures)

Inverted field restarts every 25 laps........
Race only on 1-1/2 mile tracks with same configuration & banking (except if International Speedway Corporation owned track).
Limit race distance to 1-1/2 hours (plus 1 hours or commercials)
Leader at the end of race is the series champion.

I remember listening the races in the '70's on MRN when the races at Riverside were 400/500 MILES long!!! There went a complete afternoon!!

The January Riverside Race was indeed 500 Miles -- on a Road Course known for being hard on equipment. The reason Dan Gurney won 5 of those Motor Trend 500 milers was because he was gentle on the brakes and clutch; usually the only driver with any of either left at the end of the grind !!! Very Happy
The race distances were changed to kilometers in June, 1976 ( 400 miles to 400 K - 248 miles ) and January, 1977 ( 500 miles to 500K - 311 miles ), and not as part of any fuel crisis cut - back as many have believed, but rather for TV coverage. My first Riverside race was in 1981, but some of the January races were still Loonngg, especially when the weather interfered.

There is no way a 500 mile race on a road course will ever be covered by TV, even 400K or 500K would be too long, but, maybe at least 100 laps?? But there again, I think the distances on the road courses is dictated by TV......
