DK: It's a beautiful day for racing here in the great state of Georgia and the drivers of the 2024 Fantasy Cup Series are about to mix it up on the road course! Hello everyone, I'm Dave Knight alongside Darrell Waltrip. Welcome to the famous Road Atlanta course for the penultimate event of the season; the Kingsford 127.
DW: We've got 50 laps around this place and these drivers are gonna have blisters after today. This is a fast track.
DK: And with that, let's go trackside for the opening ceremony.
Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats for our national anthem.

And now with the most famous words in motorsports, give it up for our Grand Marshal, country music artist and Georgia native, Luke Bryan!
LB: Lady and gentlemen, start your engines!
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go road racin'!
DK: Rattlecan Dan leads the field through the first right hander. He puts a car length on the 11 of Dorf. He's not letting him get away as they swerve through the long series of esses.
DW: I tell you who else got a good start, ol' Spud got a huge push from the 97 of Blank.
DK: And the 14 of Dixieland winner Ken Wallace moves up behind him for 5th. Meanwhile, the leaders are in turn 6. Dan with about the same advantage over Dorf through that short chute. They'll now make their way through the long sweeping curves of turn 8 and turn 9.
DW: I think Hollywood might have an extra cylinder in that Oldsmobile. She's picked off 2 spots already on this first lap.
DK: Into the quick little chicane of turns 10A and 10B. Dan slips a little, Dorf draws in closer. He puts the bumper to Dan's Ford but can't make a move as they wing it through turns 11 and 12. Rattlecan Dan leads the opening lap at Road Atlanta!
Lap 10
DK: And the NOS Energy Ford of Sheldon Hatterfield pulls behind the wall. He just radioed to Jack Hatterfield, "This thing's dead." Hard luck for the defending series champion. His season has not gone the way he would have liked.
DW: Man, what a heartbreaker.
Lap 17
DW: Trouble up in 6! We got a car spinning into the sand and into the tire barrier!
DK: And it's the points leader going into this race, Keith Wallace!
DW: Dave, it looked like he didn't even slow down on his approach. Something obviously broke loose.
DK: Official word from the pits is that Wallace had no brakes. Tough spot to have that kind of parts failure on this course. We do see the window net down and Keith climbs out under his own power but what a scary ride that was.
Lap 27
DK: We're more than halfway through this event and we've got a challenge for the lead. Dorf goes to the inside in 10A! He clips the grass and collects the 6 of Rattlecan Dan! They had opened up about an 8 second lead over 3rd place Lee Loggins but that's all out the window now.
DW: Dorf was able to drive off but Dan's stalled out. Wait, there it goes he's got it fired up.
DK: Heavy damage to the left side of the Valvoline Thunderbird. He's gonna take it to the pits but I think he'll be able to continue.
Lap 34
DW: Now look at who's knockin' on ol' Razorback's door. It's the 27 of Amy Hilton. She's makin' a heck of a run at the boss and she's gonna take over 3rd.
DK: Meanwhile, Ken Wallace is in 2nd and he has been closing that gap between him and leader Lee Loggins.
DW: Now the 46 has to worry about the 11 of Dorf. I wouldn't put it past him to take out his owner.
Lap 46
DK: Ken Wallace has reeled in the Oldsmobile of Loggins. The leaders are in the esses but Wallace has been very strong navigating those curves. They're side-by-side! Wallace on the inside of turn 5 and he'll clear the 96 heading towards turn 6!
White Flag
DW: White flag! Ken Wallace has ol' Spud to his inside!
DK: And Loggins retakes the lead out of turn 1 but remember a few laps ago, Wallace made a tremendous move in the esses. The'll bob and weave. Wallace draws in again. Can't complete the pass in turn 5 like earlier. They run 2 abreast into turn 6. Loggins locks up the brakes. Wallace to the outside but keeps his momentum. Loggins gets loose allowing the 14 to regain the advantage.
DW: Lee lost a bit of ground there too but way to hang in there.
DK: And down the long curves of 8 and 9, Ken Wallace maintains about half a second advantage over the 96. Not for long though! Loggins digs it into turn 10A and somehow stays even with Wallace through 10B. They muscle their way through 11 and 12. Coming to the line... Ken Wallace edges Loggins by a fender to win the Kingsford 127 at Road Atlanta!
DW: That's the kind of finish you see on a short oval, not a road course! What a battle these guys just put on!
DK: And that 2nd win of the season will propel Ken Wallace to the points lead over his dad Keith.
1. 14 - Ken Wallace
2. 96 - Lee Loggins
3. 27 - Amy Hilton
4. 46 - JR Sealey
5. 11 - Doozle Dorf
6. 97 - Phil N. Blank
7. 26 - Tim Wallace
8. 6 - Rattlecan Dan (-2)
9. 23 - Keith Wallace (Out)
10. 17 - Sheldon Hatterfield (Out)
DK: And Hilton still looms in 3rd place just 4 points behind new leader Ken Wallace. A close battle but 5 bonus points will be available before the final race of the season for the best looking car. Voting for that will begin at the conclusion of this telecast. So with that, we put this race in the books. Next week, we go to the Last Great Coliseum that is Bristol to decide the 2024 Fantasy Cup Series Champion. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. Thank you for joining us and we'll see you in Tennessee!

Congrats to Ken Wallace and the #14 team. Anyone see which way that Dorf lit out for?! Huh? Anyone? |
