From memory. The modified era was about to end. As far as I
know this was David Ezell's last modified. Probably 1965. Was
the only modified I ever saw using a Ford Victoria body. I liked it's
looks but have never seen a picture of this one.
David Ezell drove late models for the next 20 plus years, always
using the #16 (or 6 on occassion)...

Wow! This is one of your best cars yet. Maybe it's the black over bright red on the Vicky, I don't know but this one looks great.

The black/red is a good contrast. Plus the interior is a “natural “ evergreen plastic unpainted white. Seat is black & the steering wheel is red. The Victoria was a little more roomy inside which allowed for a more substantial roll cage than the previous coupe bodies, which were probably getting hard to find anyway.
Engine is a Chevy V8 is from an AMT 34 Ford. Headers made from unpainted aluminum rod, which is easy to bend & shape. Wheels/tires are a combination of Ron Coon/Mikes Decals.

You just gotta love those old racecars. Terrific workmanship and attention to detail. Thanks for sharing with us

Yes don’t much care for the “kit car” modified cars of today.
These 60 era cars were built with backyard knowledge. Watching
My neighbor bringing in bits & pieces at a time and putting one
Of these cars together was amazing to me. Still have fond memories
Even though I was well under 10 years old.
Built with the same construction in mind, but no two were ever alike.

Great job! Really represents that backyard ingenuity and make do with what you got. Simple and nice-looking as well.

Up close after a few races these cars could show some
Wear and tear. But from the grandstand they looked fantastic.
Track public address always warned to watch for jagged metal and hot tires when going into the pits after the races.
Working on another version of a Piggie Bennett car, just need to add the decals and will post in a few days.

Yes don’t mind doing all these models then “giving them up” to a new home.
Mainly to guys in Jax that were around during the early 60’s & saw these cars run are very appreciative to get a model of what they saw.
But I do keep a few that were special to me.

Frank Conken
Engine builder

a few of my favorites. Both 33 Plymouths .Back then (thanks to the AMT 32 Ford)
I though every car was a 32 Ford. Surprised years later (thanks to the internet) to find out
that they were Dodges, Plymouths, Chevies etc...

Their garage was very near my third & Fourth grade School in Jacksonville.

Local potoato chip factory in Jax.But was not around long.

I know that I've said it before, but I really enjoy your models and the stories that go with them.

Thanks, try to keep the stories short so as not to bore anyone. Fond memories of the early 60’s probably because I was under 10 years old
And had no worries !!!
But now older and “retired” and have put any worries behind me…

I do appreciate the comments. Makes the effort worth while.
