Red Moore built cars and ran at Speedway Park in Jacksonville from the
tracks opening in 1947 until the switchover to late models in the mid 60's.
This model is an early version of the #39 cars that later became well known
in the southeast with LeeRoy Yarbrough as the driver.
But this one was actually driven by the car owner. Unable to find a driver, he
got behind the wheel of this three windowed coupe and won several features.
His only experience as a driver.
Most of these early modified cars ran Ford flathead engines, but this on had a
small block chevy, at least by the mid 50's and used skinny truck type tires.
When I was a kid I would slip behind Red Moore's garage & check out the old
#39 cars that well past there prime. It was what we called a "junk yard" loaded with
cars that would probably be worth a fortune today...
Thanks to board member Dave Van for his help on this one.

The 39jr with owner/driver Red Moore

Great looking model and story. I did the same thing as a kid, our local junk yard ran race cars too. The owner let me aimy buddies go out and look at the cars.

Last of the 39 cars. Built with the idea LeeRoy would return to JAX on Saturday
nights but as far as I know he never drove this one. Busy with his Grand National career & running late models at Columbia on Thursday nights.

one of the late models LeeRoy drove at Columbia

Really liking the 55 Chevy. Puts me in mind of Rex White's 55 Chevy sportsman that he drove in 1965 after he withdrew from Grand National racing. He won like 26 races in a row with that car.

Here are a few more of the Chevy

Here's what LeeRoy ran before the switch to the 55 Chevy

Thanks for the extra pics of the 55 Chevy. Rex's 55 looked just like it except it was gold and white. I won't post it here, so I don't hijack your thread.

Have seen pictures of the real car. Feel free to post it or the model. I’m always looking for new ideas or better ways to do things. Rex was one of the best.
